Indians grounded...3rd test will be a cracker.
by dennis on Dec 30, 2006 07:41 PM

India has flattered to deceive.
Good to see Prem back in Rediff.
Sachin (he was lucky in 1st innings),Rahul (although unlucky), Sourav and Laxman (he was far from his fluent self) looked pathetic.
Sehwag (he cant bat for more than 20 balls, unless lucky) and Jaffer are not worth being discussed.
Sreesanth yet again again enhanced his reputation.
Hope VRV Singh and that hopeless opener Jaffer are dropped for the decider. 20s shouldn't clinch ones place ina team afetr 30 runs in 8 innings in the SA tour.
Men in Blue----Best wishes for 3rd Test ... we hope to see the fab four of middle order firing and Munaf delivering with Sree and zaheer and India will win...no problems.
After all, man for man, SA is no match for India in batting.

Happy New Year Prem and Rediff and Men in blue.

Cheers

Yes India lost
by perl57 on Dec 30, 2006 07:38 PM

No excuses about it. Weather and India are always against each other. When we are in a winning position, it becomes worse by raining or showing bad light and more than 5 or 6 series' I have seen India were on the receiving end. Today when we badly needed rain and badlight to stop play it did not. All SA asked was 20 overs and instead they bowled double of what they asked and hence, bad luck as far as weather goes. Worse that Sachin, Laxman, Ganguly and Dhoni went giving their wickets away. Why play cricket when you cannot apply yourself? Every day at our jobs we bust in daily on our weak points to make them strong but this Indian team at present is either struggling doing too much work or is stubborn like Sehwag to learn. Not even a single century is pathetic. And so is umpiring giving dravid three wrond decisions in a row. Cape Town we are gonna go down with all the things together. Weather, umpiring, form, lousy play etc etc.

Pathetic show by top order
by Hussain on Dec 30, 2006 07:33 PM

The top order in particular sachin n sehwag need to learn a few lessons fromm tailenders Zaheer n sreesanth on how to apply themselves to the task and noy getting buckled down by the pressure. Sehwag needs to b sent back just as Pathan has been sent.

India loses 2nd test to South Africa
by Melvin on Dec 30, 2006 07:28 PM

Indian cricket teams loses to the South Africans again, without a fight. This bunch of Indian crickets have no stomach for a fight. Except Zaheer Khan, none of so-called batsmen in the top order showed grit, determination and fight.

Shewag needs to be thrown out of the team immediately. its perhaps his attitude towards the game and the backing he receives from the team management inspite of his repeated failures that would have drained the fight out of other team members. This guy has forgot how to bat. he looks all lost and at sea when at the crease. The team management would do him and themselves a great favour by sending him back to domestic cricket. He needs to play in the domestic cricket to conquer the ghost in his mind and to find himself and his old form before he is again brought back into the team.

Sachin i think its time for him to hang his boots and go home.

Take out Sehwag, india will win the match.
by Santosh on Dec 30, 2006 07:28 PM

This is absolutely disappointment to indian team who won the last test. The played carelessly and paid the price for that. Ganguli has came back, do you feel anything has changed? My opinion is remove ganguli once again.

India's woes of its own making!
by Dr. Aravind Bedekar on Dec 30, 2006 05:16 PM  | Hide replies

"and India yet again surrendered a potentially winning advantage with the seamers bowling too short too often, and letting Shaun Pollock add an invaluable 122 with Andrew Hall and Morne Morkel."

Mr. Panicker,
I don't know where you found "this winning advantage" India had! At least now after watching the Indian batting in the second innings (which I had predicted in a message to you a couple of days back itself!) you have to admit that India batted badly in the first innings itself to surrender a good lead! Even if SA had scored around 150 runs in the second innings it would have been more than enough! The plain fact is India does not have the talent and especially temperament to face this kind of bowling on fast pitches. If you compare a batsman like Morkel who was making his debut(he faced the Indian bowlers with ease) with the much hyped gods and princes of Indian Cricket (count the number of times such experienced Indian batters were beaten!) you will understand what I mean. Even Kumble is putting up a good fight with the bat due to his fighitng spirit which nobody (forget Chappel) can teach to anybody!!

I totally agree with Aravind, Indians lost the test match on second day itself. Conceding 88 runs first innings lead to SA is good enough to loose the match. Its temparament and courage which is clearly missing.
Indians
1) Needs solid and aggressive opener(s) who can play atleast first 25 overs on any surface.
2) Should learn to play well in all sessions, otherwise winning is like fluke as in the case of first test match.

Without solid openers Sachin and Dravid is exposing to new ball in almost every innings.
With few exceptions indian bowlers did good job in this tour so far, but should they learn how to ride on the momentum, not like both the innings in this test match.
