Controversy
by Prateek Raman on Aug 24, 2006 10:13 AM

I think Darrel Hair loves being in controversy. He loves being in limelight by fighting with big players especially the subcontinent players. He should be banned from umpiring with immediate effect. You have to have evidence before saying that the ball has been tampered.

Wrong though Right!
by Premjith on Aug 24, 2006 09:32 AM

The actions of Hair would have in all sense been in concurrence with what is written in the books that govern the game written and amended by ICC. But if all rules where to be just followed as rules, cricket wouldn't be cricket anymore.
Players taking small break in between overs in hot conditions, and many such allowances are given to players not based on the provisions of the rule but on more practical and commonsensical grounds.
Hair, a stout practiocitioner of the game, has rarely been seen in such acts against other nations. Australians support him, not because he is an Australian but because they have rarely played when he officiated and whenever he has, they have in the receiving end of some favors from this umpire - the Muralitharan incident, just to name the most popular one.
The pundits of the game must punish Pakistan for the forfeiture and the way they handled their protest, but a very unbiased enquiry must be made to know if tampering actually happened. If yes, punish Pakistan for tampering and Hair for the way he handled it. No excuse for that. Else, this should be an example for the umpires. I agree as Steve Waugh says - no one is bigger than the game.

Darell Hair has always acted against Asian players
by Sam on Aug 24, 2006 04:50 AM

Darell Hair has as always acted without any proof. He has got a biased pre-determined mindset which is judging players guilty without proof. Such a biased person must be thrown out of cricketing fraternity. He judged Murali guilty but ICC cleared him. Same has happened in case of some other players. Australians always support their countrymen and so Darell Hair receiving sympathy from those quarters is no big surprise. But this time he has crossed all limits. He shouldn't have awarded runs without first giving warning even if there was any truth in his fantasies that ball was being doctored. He should be banned from umpiring matches if he cannot prove ball tampering. Make an example out of this racist zeolot so that others do not discriminate.

Dissent not justified
by Kannan Iyengar on Aug 23, 2006 10:54 PM

Pakistan should have played on and proved that they can win without the tampered ball ;-) Jokes apart, they have a long history of tampering the ball with anything and everything. Masters of this art!!! So, it\'s like the wolf story where finally even if you tell the truth after 10 lies no one will believe it.

Umpires are racial against the asain players
by Ranjan Deb on Aug 23, 2006 09:00 PM

Hi,

My name is Ranjan Deb. I am really unhappy with the decision what Mr. Darrel Hair did with the Pakistan team on Sunday. I am a great follower of cricket and I am a die hard cricket fan, but what Mr. Hair did with the pakistan team was totally unethical and unjustified. Foreign Umpires are really bias with the asain players and this is not done. Take the examples of Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, they are international players, but whatever they do on the field they are hardly pinpointed by the Umpires why is that so. I am with the pakistani team and the Captain should be protesting against all odds and if it requires to cancel the england tour as well he should do it. And Darrel Hair should not be standing in any of the matches were Pakistan is playing.

Darrel Hair
by Prem on Aug 23, 2006 08:21 PM  | Hide replies

He is an sort of umpire who will look only for the fault that asian subcontinent players commit and will leave the players of other countries(especially australia, england) and his umpiring decisions are also partial.

The best one is Simon Taufel.
