Emotionalism not needed in Cricket
by Rajesh Mago on Sep 07, 2005 10:30 PM

Not sacking the consistently unperforming old cricketers and comparing them to the real life old parents is complete nonsense. Its sheer emotionalism and in competitive sports these sentiments yield to very bad results as evident. Sentiments are not valued in sports but the performance.
The consistently unperforming sportsmen must understand that they are not in the team because they are old but they are there to perform and win matches. There is no dearth of young talent but it needs to be given chance and it can't happen till the selectors become more professional and result oriented.

The biggest question is How many chances needs to be given to the old unperforming sportsmen waiting for them to deliver? I think that there is no shame and loyalty left in some of the consistently old unperforming cricketers and in the selectors too.

Fitness and Fielding
by Sridhar on Sep 07, 2005 10:27 PM

Yes. I whole-heartedly feel that Indian Players need to be reviewed in their performances and their fitness. Expressly, the fielding has to be attended to and the problem of consistency must be attended to. Bowlers have also let the team down in the crunch situations like the tournament finals, be it in Srilanka or in Zimbabwe.

I dont have any compunctions in naming a few players, like Nehra, Venu etc., whose performances in the field was abyssmal. As one commentator, these guys are really in a "dream land". The coach also doesnt seem to be more communicative in this regards for basics would have done the job in this regard.

Win or loss finals, our bowling is pathetic - Srilanka tournament and Zimbabwe series - for we allowed the opposiotion to take the intiative in the first few overs, which forms a critical phase in the match. Nehra again has to be blamed for the length he employed against the in-form batsmen like Fleming and Astle.

And the "purpoted" cleft in the team is budding also in the field, from the way certain players treat the captain. Whatever happens off the field, I think the players must take the field and support the captain. Coach has a job in hand.

this is all bakwas
by muralidhar on Sep 07, 2005 10:22 PM

coment on Mahandra
"We respect the feeling of the entire country and we sincerely hope the cricketing heroes understand that as well..."
this is all bakwas ....i want to tell it to BCCI president and to all the media that ... there is hype of cricket in media ...not in common people ...if there is some people worried about the performance ...it is media people ...not the common man ...(what ever media thinks , can not be opinion of common man) ...
every one know that there is nothing other than politics in selection committee ...more on paper(or advertise) less on filed is the mantra of indian cricket team ...

if you really want to stream line this ...you think of implementing the measure of performance metric of the players as the selection criteria keeping aside the ugly politics...

About indian team
by Rishi kant on Sep 07, 2005 09:41 PM

I 'ld like to say the defeat of indian team against New zealand is due to poor performance on batyting and bowling.we had made 155 run upto 24th over but after dismissal of Virender Sewhag all batsman are unable to put the score beyond 300 in another 26 over.
it was a good plateform that indian skeeper sourav ganguly and sehwag both opener had put for the middle order batsman. But they were failed to do so.

After it in the second session our pace attacker Irfan pathan ,Ashish Nehra and Ajit aggarkar were unable to get early wickets as well to content the New zealand,s batsman. They have got 86 run upto 11th over without any loss.Hence the math have turned away from our side to the winning team.I have very much dissapointed from the Indian performance in the finals
as i am patriotic about my country.so please send my message upto the indian players.
Thanking you

Team India needs a makeover
by Harjeet on Sep 07, 2005 09:39 PM

I think the selectors need to show they have a backbone and take some firm action. Past performance is just a guidance, not THE measure. Also cartels be it of players or players viz-a-viz officials must not let come between the right selection.

We are proudly second....
by Animesh on Sep 07, 2005 09:27 PM

was the comment of Indian team after losing rather embarassingly to Australia in World Cup.

Since then the country is always second, in tri-series it loses in the finals. In plain series it loses out the matches and remains second (last).

CHANGE THE MENTALITY. sports is not about being at the second spot; it is about winning every match you play.

Learn something from England. Had they just sat, hand-in-hand that aussies are unbeatable and we are proudly second, they wouldn't have reversed the fate of Ashes tournament.

Just my 2 cents.
