DR S Banerjee
Mr Prem Paniker,s article
by DR S Banerjee on Nov 30, 2005 04:22 PM

This is one of the finest analytic atrticle on the
burning subject on present cricket adminstration in India.:END OF DALMIA ERA: There is nothing wrong to
bring change if not for anything at least to remove
any stagnation in progress. It should be the blind to
disagree what Mr Dalmia brought in both in BCCI and
also in ICC.When Dalmia become the secretary of BCCI
the institution had deficit balance of more than 80lk
and turned it in to more than 100cr positive. So was
his contribution in ICC.Mr Pawer a politicain of high
repute has the ability to improve if he can keep men
like Dungerpur pressing him on Dalmia?Ganguly bashing.
Mr Paniker is correct to say :Coach and Captain had
difference of openion on the road map for 2007 but not
on the goal. Both are at fault in airing views in press
and print(e-mail).Both should have been penalised. But
Captain was penalised(Ganguly) Coach allowwed to move.
:A great player who in his pomp has contributed immen-
sley to the development of the current team deserve no
less:Keeping blind eye to the BCCI election they did
disservice to Ganguly and allowed Coach to get away
with sin. Will Dravid be cool to his old pal. Thanks
Paniker

BCCI - The main agenda any takers
by Prashant Kochhar on Nov 30, 2005 04:08 PM

A lot has been said and heard on the issue of cricket in India. However, in all this din about Sharad V Dalmia, Greg V Saurav all seem to have forgotten about the main agenda - Cricket in India.

We as a nation of 1 billion plus people (80% practise cricket as a religion) are yet to realise how a bunch of jokers (Sorry for the steal Jimmy, in 80's it was the selectors now it is the administrators) are taking all of us for a ride.

What has the BCCI done till date to scout for talent outside the domain of players sent by their member associations who in turn are themselves a question mark. When the warring factions do not trust the member associaiton of picking the right representative to vote at the AGM, how do they trust them with picking the correct players for the domestic matches.

The BCCI has copied the Aussies well by opening the NCA. However, has any one at BCCI put their minds on what system needs to be created to have a flow of quality players coming through the same for palying at various levels. Of course the mandarins would be at their creative best in organising matches however, when it comes down to uplifting the game at the grassroots they leave it to Gods!

Chandrasekhar Sastry
New president
by Chandrasekhar Sastry on Nov 30, 2005 03:59 PM

Well said, Prem.
you are absolutely correct. The cricket fans in INDIA should know what exactly is the criteria for ganguly's ommision. And also the newly appointed office bearers should put all those topics what you have mentioned to rest in a good administrative way but not politcal way.Anyway i am looking forward to the selectors are they going to adopt the same selection policy they vested against GANGULY. to the other players in future especially SACHIN, as he had not scored in last nine matches and also if the test match in chennai washed out or if ganguly was rested for this test match is he going to get a berth in the next test.

with regards
SASTRY..

Ref.: Cricket-Article: "What Sharad Pawar needs to do" by Mr. Prem Panicker.

I appriciate the contention of Mr. Panicker that Mr. Pawar & Co must dwell into the abuse of Ganguly and clarify to the Indian cricket fans what the selectors have finally decided about him.

Another point I admired is his deduction that the crowds at Calcutta / Bangalore etc - in short, the Indian fans booing the Indian players! And to think that a foreign coach unfortunately happened to be a "catalist" for this sorry state of affairs.

Chappel hatredness - Sourav is never going to make it.
by Ramanathan on Nov 30, 2005 03:18 PM

First of all, I am surprised that Prem suddenly acknowledges the deeds of Sourav though most of the guys in the country portray as a villian. As long as Chappel-regime goes on (Dravid is anyway a puppet), Ganguly is never going to make it (to the playing 11, if not the team), no matter how many tonnes of runs he scores in the domestic circuit. Chappel is now trumpeting for Yuvraj, the latter was in the team solely becos of Sourav, and now this guy, the real opputunist, singing the praise of Chappel. The former captains ensured that their place is secure by blocking several players who would become the captains threat. In Sourav's case, he failed to see that and paying the price. In India, it is better to be individual-centric rather than team-centric. Sourav made a grave mistake there.

Moni
ganguly should be given another chance
by Moni on Nov 30, 2005 03:09 PM

Ganguly should get another chance. That chance should be for whole series both in test and ODI. His records will speak everything. If we consider his complete record then he is still excellent. He got second highest number of centuries, third highest runs in ODI. For everyone there may be good time or bad time. This is life. Nothing in this world is hundred percent perfect. If we consider the current record then also he got a century in Zim in last test. It is very bad to judge ones ability depending on the strength of the opponent. If we are unbeatable by any team then condition is different. Otherwise no one can grade in this way. Considering Sourav as Dalmiya's name is really a unlawful act. Ganguly's record is not because of Dalmiya. Sourav is himself capable of. He made this record by his own talent. He should be included in the team atleast as a cricketer. Selecting only for a single match will give tremendous pressure on him. If he gets chance for a series then he can feel free to perform. After complete series BCCI can decide the present ability.

Sumit K Mazumder
Prem Panickers article.
by Sumit K Mazumder on Nov 30, 2005 03:06 PM

I agree with you and find lots of basis on whatever you have written. If some one like the most successful Captain of the national team is dropped and no explanation are offered, tempers are likely to flay. Lots of people feel that a person good to be a captian till yesterday is not found good enuogh to be in the team is not based on reason but in itself a parochial action. When Sourabh became captian, he replaced tendulkar and there was none who could have been captain. His backing even rahul and fitting him in the one day team as a wicket keeper, picking up Sehwag as opener when he was not, backing Yuvraj, Harbhajan, forcing Anil to continue to play can not be forgotten, He took us to World cup and ICC cup finals. Won maximum numbers of matches as captain, All these are no mean contribution. Does he or does he not deserve a place in the team and if there is no place at least an explanation as to why being excluded ? Drop Tendulkar in a match played in Mumbai and see what happens. The reason Bengali's and Ganguly supporters are unhappy and also mad is because of the treatment meeted out to him at the instance of a foreigner. He deserves much better than what is happening.

I think we have to work together ..........
by manish on Nov 30, 2005 02:57 PM

After winning of Sharad Pawar in BCCI election, there is a common thinking that doors of Team india for ganguly will be closed. But i think Sharad Pawar is a good Administrator & he will not put any pressure regarding any player. After all Ganguly was a good player & his recent forms shows that he is ready for playing good innings.
For sake of team India i think performance & capability must be key factor for selection & I hope new president of BCCI will be more concern about this.
