Chappell will not mess around
by Kishore Lahiry on Nov 08, 2005 11:32 PM

It is really a fun to me that Mr. Greg Chappell deliberately ignores Sourav Ganguly as a player. My simple quastion:- Leave apart his role as Captain Sourav has proved enough as a Cricketer by scoring 10000 plus runs with 22 Centuries in ODIs and was instrumental for Team India wins in many matches. What Mr. Greg Chappell has been proved so far! As a Coach of any National side he has suffered 3(three) defeats in Sri Lanka and 1(one) here till now. Won 4(four) in home grounds, leaving apart the record in Zimbabwe. Previously as coach of Western Australia, the record better not be shown. So, set up an example first to rule on others.

Its not only coach that doesn't like him....Anyways, arjit plz dont go on the individual records and that is wat chappel says. Individual records doesnt give us victory, it comes only by team effort. India lost 19 finals in last couple of months after worldcup and even if u want to see the ganguly's record just check how many 50's or 100's he made and against which team, which is very important. More importantly, chappel asked him just to step down so that he can play freely but gangulay made it a issue and he is the only one who made his own journey tough. I guess u dont know the politics he did, if u want to know further just email me......

What we want are results
by gpgpgp on Nov 08, 2005 10:10 PM

As we have heard it many times in the near past, individuals are not important it is the result India produces that has to do the talking.
Ganguly had taken up the captancy at a troublesome point in Indian cricket and has been instrumental in team's success from there as captain. He was ready to experiment and importantly pull out many good results. After 1985 - 86, I think India had some good wins abroad under his captaincy only. We should not forget that. He was aggressive too.
Even after Chappel coming as the coach, I don't think that Indian performance has improved pretty much. Still we performed bad overseas. The series win against Srilanka can't be taken as the measuring point of Chappel's genius, over the ages we have been tigers at home. But, again Chappel should be given his quota of time to prove, especially when he possess a completely different style from his soft spoken predecessor.
The best thing is to give Chappel free hand for some more time to put his plans into action and then lets measure the results. But Ganguly is not a person whom Indian Cricket Fans can forget easily. I sincerly hope he will back blasting as ever.

Captor
When will we change
by Captor on Nov 08, 2005 09:41 PM

Individual goals and accomplishments are of no value before a countrys pride. We, Indians got so accustomed to loosing that we developed a tendency to be satisfied with individual accomplishments. Gangulys, Tendulkars and Dhonis come and go but what remains is India. No other country gives so much importance to Individuals than we do. Ganguly can be thrown out and Tendulkar should be if he is not playing. We cannot just keep some one because they played good once upon a time. Ganguly was a great player. Not anymore. Even if we want to get back him in the team whom would you take out and what would be the reason. Why do people assume that we cannot get one more Ganguly or Tendulkar from the new generation. You people should understand what players go through to get into Indian team. We should not retain some one because of past records. Performance should be given importance.

Chacha Chaudri
To all jingoistic Bengali fans of Saurav.
by Chacha Chaudri on Nov 08, 2005 09:02 PM

Airjit, Why is it that most Bengali adores Ganguly and will not look at his obvious failures in the last 3 years, politicking not withstanding ?

Do Bengalis forget that Saurav made the best of his runs before 2003. After that he has scored against minnows, but has failed miserably against every classy team.

Saurav's game against real pacers is a joke. The guy looks as brave as a deer 10 ft away from a raging lion.

Saurav is spent and should retire to go coach gully players. He was good no doubt, but a man can only stand so long on his past.

Saurav go home, and Bengalis, quit whining. Go find another Bengal talent, and the country will give due credit to him

A legend hidden by politics
by Varun on Nov 08, 2005 07:54 PM

Surti is indeed a Legend. I would Love to watch him contribute more to Indian cricket. Secondly his point on Indian cricket poilitics I would say are sentences to be marked in Gold. With the point on chareacteristics of Chappeel make me feel happy that at last there is someone who has come to lead India fearless of any external circumstances but would do anything to keep his principles going. A true Australian.

indian cricket
by srinivas v naik on Nov 08, 2005 07:15 PM

All those things about ganguly, very true. He has made a lot of runs and has won matches for india more regularly than anybody i can think of. But there is a time for everything. If people are still stuck with all those runs he made,he would still be playing 20 years from now.He should be picked and definitely should be picked if makes runs again, that is when all the statistics will be appropriate. He is a great player, no doubt, but to be picked , he should perform again. commenting on one of the messages, why dont we call gavaskar to play again. he has scored more runs than gangully and has more centuries.
