Third Test at banglore
by Patrick on Mar 30, 2005 03:32 AM

should Ganguly still be the captain of India after this performance. Maybe we are over reacting to the situation but then this is how ganguly has played for a long time now. When parthiv patel played a few bad innings and then had a tough time behind the stumps we removed him from the team...........

Should that be done with Gsnguly to tell him that his place in the team is not certain if he keeps on performing in the same way as he is at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we should find a solution for this and also the reason why India put down the shutters so soon they could have atleast got some runs and then they should have tried to draw the test but that was not to be as soon as Shewag got out we seen the pain with which the batsmen were playing......

The captain should lead from the front not sit back there and tell them that is the end of the test we should try to block every ball we face and try to draw the match.....

Regards

Patrick Michael.

openers?
by shams on Mar 30, 2005 01:07 AM

when india had a problem with openers, any middle order collapse or non-performance was blamed on not having a stable opening pair. Now that we have a good opening pair, they yet don't perform. Makes you wonder if the previous reasons were valid or not ...

moreover, on cricinfo.com there was an interview with ganguly, who audaciously proclaimed that his strength was his confidence. What kind of confidence does he show with his team that they are afraid of chasing a attainable score when it matters the most.

I don't care how good Ganguly has been for India previously, he should own up to the responsibility of the debacle and submit his resignation. The team is already short of a genuine all-rounder, and we cannot add to its woes by burdening it with a batsman (can we call him one) who cannot perform and a captian who cannot inspire confidence.

Curtains down for Ganguly.

exactly!
by md. navaid arif on Mar 30, 2005 12:36 AM

I totally agree with ur view, Prem.Instead of using advantage [which sehwag provides by batting fast]for the team , players r tending to use it for their own. They r playing more slowly & consuming more deliveries to settle down than they were used to in past time.Result?all the good work done by sehwag goes in vain &team's runrate drops considerably.
In the 1st innings of third test in Bangalore recently, the teams runrate was good 4.05 before Sehwag's departure.& after that they scored at a mere 2.45!!!.So dear GREAT players of INDIAN TEAM plz take a note of it & kindly play ur natural game irrespective of what Sehwag does in the middle.
ur fan & well wisher,
NAVAID.

We lost because the captain decided on being defensive.
by Sanjay on Mar 30, 2005 12:35 AM

Ganguly must be dropped from the team, more deserving players are in the waiting. If he is in, only for captaincy, then do remember we lost this match due to bad captaincy. Is it not the captain's decision whether we play defensively or for a win? By the way there have been similar losses under his captaincy in the past too.
Sachin today, is India's most over rated player. When can one last remember Sachin playing for the team or for that matter, playing an innings as per the team's needs. He scores only when there is no pressure and also he scores at a pace that other greats would be embarassed of. He plays only for himself and ofcourse the money. You ask, how money? Simple, the records translate into good 'PR', which translates into money as endorsement fees. I am sure a good local club team would have scored more runs than these 'greats', and perhaps saved the match in the process. Hell, Kumble almost did save the match and he is no better than a club player as far as batting is concerned.
Can someone explain, Ganguly having the gall to say "we lost because we were too defensive"? Was he sleeping while the players were doing so or does he not have control of the team?

Why Ganguly should be the captain of One Day team
by Atul Khanna on Mar 30, 2005 12:27 AM

Why should Ganguly be allowed to lead the 1 day team when he has not had a good knock for such a long time. Does captaincy alone, is the sole criteria for selection to the Indian team. Ganguly should step down voluntarily and let some one else more deserving come in his place. It is really really embarassing to watch Galguly play when he is at the crease. Ganguly should take sole responsibility for the defeat in the 3rd test against Pakistan. Sachin stepped down after we lost badly in Australia. Ganguly has the audacity to say that he has nothing to prove. Well that means that he can just stay in the team based on his past laurels. Well, What is hard for me to understand is Why the selectors are not doing anything. Are they so blind, not to do anything when everything is crystal clear. If they cannot take a bold step to remove a non performing captain, they should pack up and resign.

Too much contention, not much hunger.
by Parag Mehta on Mar 30, 2005 12:24 AM

This has happened way too often, what an ordinary fan can think of, a team of 16 + advisors can't see the solution (or the problem). They just don't seem to be putting too much thought in the process of winning.

The team in general is still playing cricket of the 80s, there is no professionalism, only sloppyness and ignorance. Perhaps Indians will always stay too content with where they are, and never hungry for victory.

Another reason we loose, we always play 9 players against opposition's 11, we just have too many celebrity players who can't be sacked (Ganguly, Laxman), especially with people like Kaif who are in form not getting a chance because the captain, though he cannot score runs, is too media smart and arrogant that it's the only usefullness left in him.

So when are Ganguly and Tendulkar retiring?

We Indian One Earner and Ten feed
by Mehboob on Mar 30, 2005 12:16 AM

It is Ganguly who did not set target for the team
Positive approch and win It can be changed only last session of Final day.....

Dravid , Tendulkar, Laxman, and Ganguly him self can learn from Kumble and if they look in to the oposition Inzy and Yunus have a great lesson to thaught If Sehwag bats we make runs Why the hell we need six batsman?

We are dawn on knees Inzi has responded handsomly to the critics and perform inspirable inngs no doubt they were underdogs but now for one day compition it is very tough for ganguly and company The Game is Live Now Like Austalia Siries 01 in India

Mukabla Tagda Hoga..............finally viewvers get paid more healthy critics should be done...

1-0 to possible 2-0 to reality 1-1
by malhar on Mar 30, 2005 12:14 AM

Prem, you couldn't be any more correct. I absolutely agree. Nobody in the team other than Sehwag (and to some extent Gambhir when Sehwag was around) wanted to play the ball to its merit. Nobody wants to put in the hard yards because they in their minds had registered that winning 1-0 is as good as winning 2-0.. so why even bother and make extra effort to make it 2-0? why put in the hard yards to make it 2-0? Guess what, the lazy attitude and mentality of 'seeing off' balls and thereby not having to even burn some energy by taking singles caused india 'seeing off' the series. What irritates me is that all these folks with so many tests (if you add up all of tests played by Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman and Sachin I'm sure we're talking in vicinity of 250 tests) with all of this experience wouldn't and shouldn't they realize that with 4~5 ppl around the bat even a solid defensive shot can result into a catch to be taken by the close-in fielders??!!! The match was lost in the minds of so-called famed indian middle order courtsey not pakistan, but courtsey themselves. Wright at the end of test#1, said - we just couldn't put the final finishing touch. Did we want to, though?!?

Golden Opportunity Lost
by Ankur Gupta on Mar 30, 2005 12:11 AM

This was a goldend opp. for Indians to take the series 2-0 or 3-0 and retain the 2nd spot in the ICC table -- Ganguly's claims earlier last year that his team is second to none including Aussies sound laughable -- not because his team does not have the skill and talent to achieve it -- it is just that they have lost the right portions of 'attitude' and 'courage' soewhere.

COWARDLY INDIANS DESERVED TO LOSE against a team which despits its lack of experience and credentials had plenty of Guts and Gumption to achieve a miracle.

Mr. Ganguly -- Are you listening .... Before even thinking of coming close to Australians, please take a leaf out of their book and start understanding the meaning of playing for honour and national pride not for personal milestones.
