I think they asked to remove it because it was a condition for Musharaff to visit India. They just wanted to suck up to Musharaff.

Why to make fuss about that, the board openly declared that the players only represent Board. And board is not completely answerable to the Indian Government. Cricket is just business in India, Board does its bussiness and Players try to improve their bussiness by packaging themselves better to improve their salability which also contain some element of patriotism.

A silly, emotional viewpoint. I see no reason why any exception should be made for the Indian cricket team. The writer of the article must have more substantive reasons to convince me than "Sachin has been playing for 15 years blah blah blah". And he should reflect instead why he did not mind his own business in the case of the man who was allegedly insulting the flag.

My view is that the law against both wearing the flag and insulting the flag is stupid and a violation of my right to express myself. The govt. of India has no right to appropriate three colors and then to dictate to Indians that there is a symbol, namely the tricolor, that everyone should hallow.

Bring Back the Flag

Hi!
Perhaps the law should be modified to allow indian players to wear the flags..

Yet the fundamental problem as was sighted in the article is understanding that law is only a guideline based on some assumptions.

Ofcourse the law authorities should take a lesson from software industry. If all the software was implemented exaclty as it is specified..there will be a lot of problems..

Implementation has to take into account "exceptions" but specification(i.e the law of the land) should not!!

So I request the government to bring back the flag

Oh btw, if the law says national flag cannot be used for commercial purposes and packaging, then it is obvious that cricketers should not be allowed to use the flag. Because after all, cricket is a commercial enterprise, not a national or patriotic endeavour. A cricket match is nothing but an entertainment product being sold by the boards and sponsors in order to entertain the viewers and make money in the process. So clearly, use of flag in such a commercial enterprise is a violation of the law.

I don't care whether the players are allowed to wear the flag or not. As long as there is a law regulating the use of flag and if the players' usage violates that law, they should not be allowed to use it. They are not above the law. But what I want to point out is your claim that they are "playing for the country". They are not. As the recent Supreme court judgement made it clear, the players only play for *BCCI*, a private club. Just as you and I work for a private organization, not for "the country". I think it is high time the Indian media stopped misleading the public into believing that the players are somehow playing for the country.

I absoliutely agree with the author of the subject article. If there is a way that we can fight for the rights of our star cricketers, we should.
This is ridiculous to vouch for laws defined in primitive times. which have been defined considering the then circumstances.
Its the changing world and we all must (including the GoI) work towards better ideas and thoughts that improve the value chain of India. For that, if the laws have to be revisted, revised, what's the issue in that?

I am all for it, and if I can in anyway contribute to revival of flags for our star cricketers, I am all for it.

Cheers
