Yes its GOOD if only ALL our players Know this
by Karthikeyan Ganapathy on Dec 15, 2005 03:11 AM

Ajit Wadekar seems to think its everybodys birthright to play in Matches if they become captain or score 10,000/- runs. I think if you score highly you can have BIRTHRIGHT to be considered for every match to play and NOT to be selected aitomatically.
LOOK what Ganguly did in the last few matches. He played cautoiusly for himself (scoring lowest runs per ball) and did not certainly make a winning performance. INDIA is a country with 100 crore people and we have lots of talents to be given enough oppurtunity to prove and NOT for only one person because he was the captain of INDIA.Good LUCK TEAM INDIA and BETTER LUCK next time GANGULY.

Relax! Selectors are right...bang on target!
by sandeep on Dec 15, 2005 02:46 AM

Top 4 reasons why Dada should stay out:

1. OVER THE HILL: He may still be good enough to get in the team (for cricketing & non-cricketing reasons) but not better than the other talented youngsters. Lets not even talk about his "improving" fielding abilities, physical fitness, running between the wickets and his being re-discovered as a "batting allrounder" recently.

2. BETTER OPTIONS: Yuvraj Singh, M. Kaif, Dinesh Mongia, Suresh Raina, V. Rao, Zaheer Khan, Hemang Bedani, and the list is getting longer....they all deserve a place solely on cricketing merits, much more than Ganguly does.

3. LIVE BY FIRE, DIE BY FIRE: Now, he's out because his political bosses have changed..his relationship with Dalmiya is no secret either. Just before Dalmiya was going to be kicked out, he made sure that Ganguly gets back in the team and preponed the team selection by a week too.

4. FOR BETTER TEAM SPIRIT AND DYNAMICS: It was clear after his public spat with Greg that one man has to go. Unfortunately for him, Greg's players not just performed better and won matches (since September), Ganguly's Godfather lost the BCCI elections too. And Dravid and his men are looking very good right now.Regards

Wadekar is senile !!!!
by Ajey on Dec 15, 2005 02:21 AM

Wadekars comments that " they do this to all left handed captains..." is uncalled for ..he is out of his mind !!!

the team and selectors need to be a lil professional in this regard..No matter who you are, you dont perform, you warm the bench !!!

mebbe we need to learn a lesson or two from the aussies in this regard.

I do agree wih Wadekar's point taht It's injustice to Ganguli and they should have gievn him one more chance.. AS his perfomance in recent test was not below par .infact it was good enough to secure a plce in 3rd test.
But i did not agree to the point he mentioned that Ganguli should retire teh same way he did. Selection commitee and perhaps few more people probably want the same. You are the one who you see yourself and not anybody else. So if Ganguli thinks he still has that passion to play then no body can stop him...

Though it's fact in cricketing history that many of the deposed captains live short after sacking.

Bring Sourav Back!!!
by Gliffton on Dec 15, 2005 01:03 AM

If they wanted to get a new opener, they should have dropped Goutam Gambhir who is out of form & has not done much in international cricket.

How can the Indian selectors drop Ganguly who had scores of 40 & 39 in the last match. Moreover he has scored over 10 thousand runs in ODI's and has proved himself at test level.

This is dirty politics being played by BCCI.

Stop belly-aching! The captain must choose the best team for each match, and if he thinks Sourav is not up to snuff, and is dropped, then so be it - there are too many very good guys out there to worry about one single person - no one is indispensible, even Sachin. So when he too starts to fumble and lose his touch, then he should be replaced with a better man.

Empathise, but More is doin the Rite thing.

Politics aside...
I think Moore has done not many selectors have unable to do with senior players what no other selector has done that is make them take their job seriously.
This is a INDIAN cricket team, if u want ur place then u better perform, this ain't a government job providing job security and monthly pay.
I would like Mr.Wadekar to read the justification that Moore has given about Ganguly's exclusion, which to me seems very justified. We do have a very strong batting line-up and its high time we give younger players a chance. Besides, Ganguly seems to live in a world of his own, when he was enquired what he was doing to overcome his weakness of bouncers, he brushed that question away by saying "Look at my previous record".

It must be possible
by Hemanth Pallavajula on Dec 15, 2005 12:35 AM

Hi,

I feel that there is no wrong in doing that. If one is not performing, then he needs to be moved out. I agree that this may not be yardstick for just 5-6 innings, in the case of senior players. But, if they are not playing for a long time, then we need to provide chances for others.
Tendulkar may not be replaced by another of Tendulkar's calibre, but definitely by one who can perform the duties of his role in the team.

Regards,
Hemanth
