no Ganguly should not resign
by amitava on Dec 15, 2005 07:03 AM

No! I feel the decission of retiring from Cricket may be intention of couple of people but definitely rest all want to see him in action. Mr. Wadekar did the wrong earlier and I will suggest not to repeat that. Definitely truth will prevail but its a matter of time.

Ajit Wadekar's Article
by Anurag Pal on Dec 15, 2005 06:23 AM  | Hide replies

It is idiotic comments like these that highlight why Indian cricket has been down for so long. Life as sport is all about results and survival of the fittest. No one repeat no one deserves a chance based on the past - only based on the future likelihood of results.

The past can be a useful indicator of future performance, but unfortunately in Ganguly's case the overwhelming majority of opinion has been for quite some time that he is finished as a test batsman. Mr Wadekar's myopic views which I believe reflect his own vastly overrated belief in his cricketing abilities, is a thinly veiled masquerade at righting a wrong when he was dropped. Mr Wadekar count yourself lucky to be born when you did, because today you would have as much chance of getting into the team as I have of dating Priyanka Chopra.

Get a life

Now that Ajit Wdekarhas come out openly critcising the selection committe, and probably hinting at the politics in BCCI.Of course now none in selection panel dare to drop even a hint of dropping SACHIN TENDULKAR will bring ire of the cricket fans in INDIA & particularly MUMBAI.There was furore when Agarkar was ignored, even he had a bad form then. Wadekar himself was targeted and so others will also face the same situation. Ganguly deserves a better deal, he after Pataudi jr, and Wadekar is only captain to sucessfuly build Team India. All the politics has grown in proportion by inducting Chappel as coach, he is against Ganguly personally & promotes openly Dravid, Shewag who have also failed
earlier in NZ & in Super series in AU this year.Different yard stick is being used, when Jaffer is inducted, and Gambhir survives.Nobody can change the attitude of selectors as this position is relatively obtained through politics of voting in BCCI elections.

Ganguley treated like culprit
by prakash mehendale on Dec 15, 2005 05:06 AM

This not only rediculus but very much disgusting for anybody who knows his job, works hard to achieve the competance, never thinks negative and so on. Ganguley perticularly was just unbeatable so many times. This PERFORMANCE cannot be easily achieved. What is the end of such a devoted player and a honourable cityzen of India?

Moreover this is not the only case in the world of criCket but in every field, you experience.the same end result. Our INDIAN CULTURE was never like this .

Our social LEADERS must THINK OVER THIS and FIGHT HARD to improve this situation and every CITYZEN OF INDIA should be greatful and dedicated to his her profession and just and fairin other walks of life also. This can be one of the reason for our failure in WORLDWIDE competitions in sports.

It is some what amusing to read the outburst of a former Captain of India who is now 64. There is no coherence in his thoughts.

It is Gambhir who should be the most woried man in the entire team. Jaffer, perhaps knows that this chance to travel to Ahmedabad for carrying 'Drinks & Towels' at the BCCI's expense and not to be in the playing XI is just a Wind Fall. If the Team Wins some Special Prizes he can get a share as a Member in the 15 but the chances of his getting into the Playing XI is very remote.

Sachin will never get into a situation like that of Ganguly. He will either get automatically selected or announce his retirement with out waiting for Ajit's advices.

Someone has to go out
by abhijit on Dec 15, 2005 03:55 AM

Cricket team accomodates 11 players. So someone has to go out for other 11. This has been happening all the time. When a player is considered for a national team he is definitely a talented player. When you do not select him then it is an injustice to his ability. You will find a big list of such exclusions despite of good record. Pravin Amare, hemang badani, Vinod kambli, sameer dighe, Munaf patel,.......
The list is endless. It is definitely bad for saurav as well. But you shdould not be biased to him due to his track record. Nothing wrong if someone is getting a chance in his place. There is so much talent in india which go unnoticed. Ganguly could make an entry due to his abilities. Stayed long in the team despite of poor form due to backing he had in BCCI. So today he is out despite of his not so bad performance. But one should agree that performance was definitely not of kind so that he could be defended. He should not be totally ignored. Every player should be treated evenly. If Sachin, dravid or sehwag fails then they also shd be given similar treatment. Player should not be big due to his history but based on current contribution. This something Indians can not accept
