Typical

This is quite typical. There is nothing new that
we do not know before. I am not sure if the answers
to all the ills (if any) that plague Indian cricket
lies in here.

Dear Mr. Rajeev,

You said that even if you or I would have been the captain, we would have won some matches. You mean it's that simple ! If that is the case, just check the records of Azzaruddin, Tendulkar and Vengsarkar as a captain. Did any Indian cricket fan ever dared to believe that Azzar's or Tendulkar's team will ever win a test match outside India ? The only overseas victory under Azzaruddin's captaincy in his long stint as a captain was against the weak pre-1996 Sri Lankans in 1994. Under his captaincy we lost 4-0 in Australia in 1991-2, we lost 1-0 in Zimbabwe in 1998 and in fact we managed to lose everywhere. Under Tendulkar's captaincy we lost 3-0 in Australia (2000), we lost 2-0 in South Africa and again we actually didn't win anywhere outside India. And in Ganguly era, so many overseas wins ? How did this happen ? Somebody has done something right! Why do you people fail to acknowledge that it was Ganguly who did this.

You mentioned the Chopra issue. That has nothing to do with captaincy. Even if we had Kapil Dev in place of Ganguly he would have done the same thing. Ganguly took care that Chopra got his chance again in the India-Australia series in India.

Ganguly WAS good, but probably not anymore...
by rohan on Apr 20, 2005 07:45 PM

The speculation surrounding Ganguly that he had played his final match of his career must probably have ended, with Kiran More, chief selector putting his weight behind the skipper. He[Ganguly] surely has the backing and the OVER support of the selectors. He is definitely not a great team man.Kumble has suffered under him though he has done reasonably well in ODI's.Hope ganguly never plays for India again,or else,we will lose some great players like Kumble...!

Sourav Ganguly- as Team India captain
by Sudeb Ganguly on Apr 20, 2005 07:19 PM

Dear Readers,
Its too early to write off Sourav as a captain and more so as a leader who has groomed this current Indian team and backed all the youngsters to the hilt- like, Sehwag, Yuvraj,Kaif,Irfan,Nehra, Harbhajan,Zaheer, Parthiv, Kaarthik, Mongia, and many more.He has led the team to dizzy heights only very recently in Pakistan and Australia. Its true that he is going through a very poor run with the bat for the last six months , but all of us know that "Form is temporary but class is permanent" ; he has scored almost fifteen thousand runs in tests and one day formats taken together and has 22 one day centuries to his credit, occupying the second spot after Tendulkar in the max. one day centuries list of players in the world.
Also if our memory is not very short Sourav and Sachin was a very formidable opening pair in the one day format before Sourav voluntarily promoted Sehwag to open the innings.
The ban on him for slow over-rate is too harsh and could have been 1 matche at the most , but eventhough when he was allowed to play by ICC till his appeal was decided, BCCI strangely persisted with Dravid as captain and did not give Sourav a chance to level the series.

Is it the same happening with Irfan Pathan as well ?? He also, came to internation cricket at a very early stage. Will his fate be like Parthiv and Ajay Ratra ?? If so, the selectors spoiled another prodigy for the Indian cricket !!!!
