You've quoted in your article that Ranji Trophy cricketers are these days paid Rs 4000. If you can only get your facts right - the BCCI has just a season or two ago hiked the match fees of players in Domestic Cricket.
Also, I'm not too sure there has been a drastic change in the thinking of hte BCCI with regards to Ganguly. I think the BCCI had a fair understanding that in the current scenario - in the current case - after being docked 70% in an earlier game and getting reprimands, the chance of the ban being overturned were rather high. Hence, to be on the safer side, he was not considered for the last two games - it is also good given that he has been going through a bad patch - India would benefit from having an in-form Ganguly in the next series, rather than an off-color person.
I do not agree to the fact that Sourav Ganguly has played his last match and I feel if he is dumped the way it is now all the wrong signals would go to the team and you wont find a willing captain in the future.Coming to the point about starting afresh and getting more new comers into the side and comparing it with the Australian phenomenon ca the author give me one example that has worked that way. I can give at least 10 that have not all kings in the domestic arena never made an impression in the big league eg. Vikram Rathore and Ajay Sharma that striking examples. There are many more like kanwaljit singh and Utpal Chatterjee who inspite of constant performance in the domestic circle never got opportunty to show there mettle in the international circuit. Moreover again coming back to the captaincy issue does India has anyone to take over I really doubt it. I have seen people talking about Sehwag being given the captaincy.Just that he is performing does not mean he should be thurst upon the responsibility and he does not have any experience as such. So I really do not see Sourav has played his last match and he should be playing till the World Cup 2007.
its too early to say that. ganguly has shown enough charcter to bounce back right in his early years also when except him everybody has written him off, anyway the article was well written with lots of common sense involve.
Saurav Ganguly might have been the most successful Indian captain ever. However for far too long now his batting has been a burden on the Indian team. As a batsman, he does not deserve a place in the Indian side any longer. There are many talented younger batsmen in the country waiting to take his place in the side. After all you cannot have a man simply to play as the captain of the side. One must select the best eleven players to play for the country. And the one among these eleven who shows the best aptitude for captaincy should be made the captain. One must look forward in life. You can't have Ganguly as the captain just because he had won more matches for the country even if his bat has stopped producing runs for quite a while now. If ever Rahul Dravid deserves to be the captain of the Indian side, it is now, while he is at the best form of his life.
