Tendulkar's Century
by CSR on Jan 24, 2004 06:02 PM

In the column, it is mentioned that Tendulkar did his 31st century in 1-days, way back in 2002, and since then there were no century made by him until 14 months.
I believe he made one century in World Cup 2003, soon after Oct 2002.

the writing touched my heart
by vivek mehta on Jan 06, 2004 04:51 AM

seldom did i expect when i open a link sent by my cousin i will
be reading something that will not only entertain and excite but
will actually teach a lesson. "What we cannot do quite as well is
swat flies; we are temperamentally unsuited to deal with the
monotonous, boring, repetitive challenges that confront us every
day." these lines will rmain etched in my memory for a long long
time to come.....

keep up the good work Prem

Nice article
by Mukesh Kumar on Jan 06, 2004 03:22 AM

Its a nicely written article covering all aspects and emotions of the innings. It uses write metaphore, very subtle yet unbiased, meaningful and drives the point home.
For those who do not like this writing style, need not hate him. There are tons of other half cooked, over done articles out there. Even more mentally challanged should read the score board.
Some people seem to hold personal grudge against Sachin for not winning the World Cup. Not for once they ponder upon the fact that if we take him out of the whole equation, we had struggled to reach super-six, forget finals. And he is no 'Chosen One' to deliver when all others fail.
Another point, already covered by someone, no one would complain if similar innings, with SR of 47, would come from Rahul Dravid or someone else. That will be regarded as higly determined and full of concentration. But when he does it, for a good reason and cause, it is regarded selfish. What if he had added quickfire 115 off 130 balls and India manages to get around 550, which is easily achievalble by aussies without any pressure
Some even picked on Prem staying up till 3:50 AM. IMHO, all he wanted to highlight was the bias in 'neutral' umpiring

Hi
by Bala on Jan 05, 2004 03:12 PM

hi prem,
i used to admire the way u used to present ur reports/ artciles especially the one u wrote the day after India beat Pakistan in the world cup '03. From that time on I don't miss any of ur articles. But in this article, u say" tendulkar had to suffer the indignity of laxman outscoring him". I am sorry to say that this is too uncharacteristic of u.

I do agree that Laxman may not be as gifted a batsman as the Little Master, but i do feel u need to mind your language -- it's very harsh on laxman..

I hope u continue to write because u r the best on rediff...

Regards,
Balasubramanian V.K.

crucifying Sachin
by anup saikia on Jan 03, 2004 08:44 PM

divine intervention and i hope the person(s) who wrote that sachin needed a sabatical from cricket (Times of India, a day or two before the 4th test) are eating their words.
people who know little about cricket should not participate in races to label as class an act as Sachin.
Dedicated to all those dimwits who though Sachin was due for a sabatical.

Masterpiece !!
by Sudharsanam Krishnakumar on Jan 03, 2004 08:33 PM

Prem Panicker has done it again, but this time in a more subtle way, like the creepers growing over a
tree, he stealthly enwraps the reader's mind, in his ingenious tangle of words, and lo behold, he emerges with a class act of his own. This article was so beautifully crafted, that it will remain etched in my memory, to evoke wonder, everytime I think about his mastery over word play.
