NEWYORK CRICKET!!
by J.N. Kini on Jan 03, 2004 06:56 PM

Prem Paniker seems to be good at writing about Cricket. If he had been a player he would have understood about one hitting a bad patch once in a while or once in life time. It is them who have made Sachin a living god of Cricket. For us mortals, he is an outstanding one, gifted no doubt.Whoever watched Sachin today would have got reminded of the way our other Master Sunil Gavaskar. It is on record about Gavaskar abandoning a particular Stroke for a while, when he found that it caused his downfall. Gavaskar who used to hook with ease, literally gave up that Strokefor rest of his career once he saw that that cost him his wicket on couple of occasions. I am sure Sachin must have applied the same theory and succeeded in getting back in the grove. What matters is India needed those runs and he got it. Well, as for us folks who enjoy armchair Cricket, who forgot his valuable contribution of 37 runs and vital two wickets in the 2nd Test which we won,we won't settle for second grade stuff; afterall it is them players palying and not us. Prem should switch to watching Base Ball while in New York. Night Cricket is bad for ones eyes.

Sachin,
Although you were not in your top form I really do appreciate you getting your highest test score. You have not only shattered the Aussies into pieces but also your own fears and weaknesses. Incase you get to bat tommorow (Day 3) don't hesitate for the cover drives and the hooks and pulls. You are truly the master of yourself and cricket as well. Good Luck.

Harsh

I am glad that the great little man could command his critics to shut their false analysis of him being bogged down, with his magic willow.
He is one among those majestic stroke makers and run getters like sir Don,Garifield Sobers,Viv.....Little Indian don has all the tricks in his kit that any cricketer in their books wud have, except a word called "giving up".Its only the patience that he is tested for. But,once he is determined to be patient, every bowler has to bow infront him.He murders everyone ruthlessly whether it be Mcgrath,Warne,Lee,Shoaib,Olonga,Caddick,Dillon and who not.
Being an Indian and a great fan of Sachin, I eagerly wait for any one of the so called world's better bowlers to challenge him on the turfor in the media.Dare not to do that guys.....he'll definitely have some fun with u. Never be so brave and risk ur careers.

Sunil.

I fully agree with the opinion. Australians may be world champions of cricket but they are the same hooligans who were sent to Australia from England, both inside and outside the stadium. They could not lump the defeat, they could not stand another team bulldozing them, ofcourse the umpires and the referee support them. They sledge too much which wwe do not do. I feel ourguys also must call them selected Punjabi phrases when sledged.
