great for india, but nothing spectacular as a cricketer
by sesh on Jan 03, 2004 01:24 PM

tendulkar's innings is being compared to the incomparable. hey, he was out of form, miserably failed in the crisis situations, he has now got his rythm. so whats so spectacular about it. Why is Prem eulogizing? Infact, I'd rate Laxman's innings because he has proved and is proving himself time and again in the hour of crisis. For all the eulogy written about tendulkar he has never shown India a victory single-handedly like a Dravid or Miandad or Waugh or Richards innings. even in his great innings, he comes mid-way, but leaves mid-way leaving the job undone or half-done. The proof is in what Mike Jordan always says, "its not how good you were along the way, its having something in you to finish". Prem, Sachin we need to see that from you. There is no denying that Sachin is a good bat, but to be great ... hey, you know whats missing, just prove it to us in a big match. may be atleast by the next world cup???
ciao

Selfish Game

Selfish Game by Tendulkar

Dear sir,

I haven't seen such a selfish game ever in the history of cricket which sachin played. He played for his own sake not for my country. If that is so he should have scored quickly. Many will praise him saying he is come back. A batsman of his class scored 220 runs in 453 ball, does it make sense.
Touch of art by Laxman what a game he played. Tendulkar should beg him for his timming such a effort less and sweet timmer of the ball Laxman.
No for the next 10 match he wil not score.

sachin
by v mahajan on Jan 03, 2004 01:20 PM

I like the way Prem has put it. I only wish to add
- the knock of sachin under the cicumstances had to be arrogant and not a flashy one. Message had to go that his achievements are hard earned,he plays the game as a science and less as an art.
I dont think he likes to be remembered as a genius.
He would love to prove that he knows how to play all type of bowling, under adverse circumstances and to be known as a player who will refuse to enjoy the game instead stick there and play a boring game to the likes of AUSSIE bowling and SHOUT GET ME OUT IF YOU CAN.
I think this is what he wanted to prove and has aptly done it today.
I think every cricket loving indian relished his innings with a lump in his throat.
Inspite of heavy score the innings should continue with Sachin deciding at a point, look how i play when i want to tear apart a bowling.
Hats off to dear Sachin

Over-rate
by Sanjay on Jan 03, 2004 01:12 PM

I quite agree with Mr. Panicker about the slow over rate as I mentioned to my colleagues. The obvious reason was that Waugh wanted to use his best bowlers, which in this case were the fast bowlers. There were no significant breaks during the day with only 3 wickets falling and no injuries of note. So there was no excuse at all.

Three things are noteworthy:
1. All white cricket match referees have been parital to other white nations making a mockery of "neutrality".
2. To make things impartial they should have a timer like they have in field hockey, basketball or American football (to name a few) to monitor any delays and keep an exact check on time. Haven't we started using 3rd umpires? There would be no shame in using more technology in this highly competitive atmosphere.
3. Once a timer is used then they can easily start penalize the guilty team a set number of runs so that they don't do it. Docking match fees or suspensions is not the answer. Hit it where it hurts.

Stop That !
by Nasir on Jan 03, 2004 12:57 PM

Let stop this thing, when Sachin was not performing the papers said that his reign is over, and now he gave a good performance, then these stories. Maybe there is some truth in these stories, but then it is a game of cricket. It is more important that the team wins this series.

Sachin-The Indian Lion starts roaring again
by daya shukla on Jan 03, 2004 12:44 PM

It is very heartning and pleasing for every Indians to see that there lion has started roaring again after short break. The breaks in every individual's life is essential as it gives chance to retrospect and take some corrective strides so as to rule the area of their work with authority. Mr. Sachin Tendulkar has proved it again to all his critics ( very few) in the world that still lot of cricketing magic is hidden in his bat and coming days his bat is going to write new history in the cricketing world that hereafter every talk on cricket will start and end on Sachin. The charachter of Sachin Tendulkar is inspires and unites every Indians. The Indians loves, adores him simply be always gives them chance to unite, feel happy and proud to be called as as Indian, unlike a politicians who does not spare any chance to divide and rule the Indians on the basis of caste, creed, religion and now days on the basis of region and language. Sabbash Sachin, Tumko hamari Umar lag gaye.
