Human memory is short !!! Yes when we read this article and appreciate Kumble being better than Kapil, we get only recent memory of Kumble taking wickets aplenty. It is not fair to compare cricketers of two periods. Kumble I think by nature a very soft, typical south Indian conservative guy. Kapil on the other hand is an aggressive go-getter. Remember, kapil had also has to live in the shadow of Sunil Gavaskar for so many years.
My only regret is the way Kapil had to retire from international cricket. In the fag end of his career he was not welcome to test sides. His bowling not every effective. It appears as though he was going through the motions without any motivations. It was really sad state of affair. When he announced his retirement many people were happily accepted the decision.
Kumble will be a real hero if he retires when he is in the peak of his form. He may not have the respect and luxury Kapil had if he drags on without being effective.

frankly speaking, we have always praised such great cricketers as sunil gavaskar, kapil dev and sachin tendulkar. but in my opinion, kumble has been the unsung hero in the indian side. it is always seen that cricketers who are great batsmen are alone highlighted, but it is also a true fact that apart from batting, bowling is also a significant factor in a cricket match. a team cannot only depend on batting. Kumble has shined in that area of cricket, giving India vital breakthroughs when needed, and helping india win matches. today kumble is one of the greatest cricketers in Indian cricket yet only few people recognise his achievements.it should be noticed that kumble has very rarely underperformed in any match, and mostly has always taken important wickets when most needed. during bad patches in indian bowling, it was always kumble whom we banked on.
