Ignored Champion!!!!
by sharuk on Dec 09, 2004 04:48 AM

The article really touching one... I have more sympathy for Kumble....Even i dont agree with u r comments abt leadership qualities...He would have made the best Indian captain ever...He never begs somebody...there are time when kumble was totally ignored..people said bad things abt him.. yet he deliverd his best,,, you no need to showcause u r self to get the responsibilty and the fame...Kumble did what he knows best.. now its left to the so called greats to give some space for him...Hope atleast now they will recognise and honor him with highest sports award...He deserves much more becoz he has done all alone with limited resources...

Very objective and factually sound article without any bias. Has given both positive and negative sides of the issue.

Could not agree more
by vinay on Dec 09, 2004 03:57 AM

I totally agree to every word in this article. A very well documented article. I have been trying to convice people about Kumble being on the best bowlers, india has ever produced for quite some time too, but i am surprised that not very many people are impressed by his bowling efforts. That is really sad. Hopefully now that he will become the highest wicket taker in test matches for india and inches closer to 500 wickets, people will recognize his enormours contribution to indian cricket.

Difference is also in pitches
by Amit Sharma on Dec 09, 2004 02:05 AM

Kumble got most of his wickets on pitches tailor made for him in India, while Kapil never had that luxury.

Some factors that have been ignored.
by Ajay on Dec 09, 2004 01:33 AM

1) being a spinner, Kumble bowls a lot more overs than what Kapil did. So he has more chances for the success rate bu bowling more number of balls.

2) Kapil also captained the Indian side for so many years, while being consistent with the ball. More responsibility to take care of

Spin King of India
by Vamshi on Dec 09, 2004 01:28 AM

Kumble - He did not market himself well...He is one of the better spinners India has produced...But i dont think he will be a role model for younger generation...For example Sachin is the role model for number of kids in India as well as abroad because it was the way he played his cricket...

You have to be smart to get recognization only performance wont give you the needed publicity...

Kumbles unorthodox art of bowling leg spinners is the reason he did not get credit which he deserves...Every one knows that he wont spin the leg breakes like Warne,Mcgill....

Spin bowling is all about deceiving batsmen..he bowls his top spinner with amazing accuracy...

Anyways Indian cricket is all about Publicity and Flashes of Brillance...it seems they dont care about long time and consistent work horses like Kumble...
which is sad...but you got to live with it thats the way Indian Board is....
Kumble deserves to be recognized by the Board and they should feel honoured to fecilitate the true fighter..

Kumble is OK but not the greatest of all time
by Murali on Dec 09, 2004 01:25 AM

what I really hate about kumble in field is his expressions on fielders when they could not stop a ball.Considering he is the worst fielder in the present Indian side, this is ridiculous.Often he bowls bad balls than good in an over even when a fielder is in close position he bowls a mindless short ball.
He needs to change his attitude towards fielders especially when he is bowling.
and to compare Kumble Kumble with Kapil, it is very clar that he took more balls than Kapil to get the same number of wickets.
He may have taken less number of tests but any average bowler who bowls 40-50 overs in an innings can achieve that average and striking rate.

an ignored champion

I agree with Subodh S. Chitre on how kumble has been ignored all these years even after being backed up by spectacular records. But, I wouldnt agree with him on the aspect that kumble should be considered in the league of sachin, gavaskar and kapil because great players are people who create an aura around themselves not only with their sporting talent but also with their mental attitude, which is 50% of their magnitude.

Good artical but not fare
by Prem on Dec 08, 2004 10:15 PM

Hello Sir,
You figs explains us how gre8 is Kumable, but this doen't take some other facts into consideration.
Now lets see few points,

1.Kapil is the only person who has given us the world cup.I dont think ganguly can do this next time.
2.Kapil was a class batsman and a fielder.
3.Other youngers are following Kapil as he changed the standard of Indian fast bowling. I dont think anybody would like to follow kumbale who has converted himself as a spin bowler without any spin.
4.Kumable cannot save a match when we need 50 runs from 5 overs. Kapil surely can get us into winning situation.
5.Kapil never shouts on his fielders if they miss a catch.
6.Kumable cannot take of his shirt on Lords after winning a final.

No doubt Kumable is gre8 bowler, but unfare to compare him with Kapil.
Now sad thing about kumbale is,
Kapil got more attention when he broke the record because the record was on the name of a non-indian person.
I am sure he would have got more attention if it would have been Wasim Akram in palce of Kapil.
Also its sad in India that you have to score tons of runs to be a all time gre8 cricketer.
