His secret was out a long time back !!!
by Shaw on Sep 06, 2003 07:17 AM

Tendulkar is a great batsman. With the massive wealth
he has accumulated, he should have paid the duty(of Rs.1.13 cr)on his gifted Ferrari instead of pleading for a waiver. He used his status as a top cricketer to extract favours. He has fallen in my eyes. Now bragging about his doing charity only makes it worse. You are NOT a great human being, Sachin, so don't pretend otherwise. Just win as many games for India in cricket as you can.

Sachin's charity
by Milton D\'Silva on Sep 06, 2003 07:00 AM

It is indeed good to know about Sachin and other cricketers' contribution to various charities. But just what are they trying to prove? The world over, celebrities who are earning fabulous sums, mainly on their talents but helped in no small measure by the support from their fans, are know to contribute to charities of their choice. The current Australian test captain is doing good work in India without playing to the gallery.

A lot of ordinary Indians with meagre incomes also contribute to charities. In fact these people often sacrifice their personal desires in order to help others. Do they shout from their rooftops? A Gujarati businessman from Mumbai is reportedly donating Rs 4 lakh every single day towards charities in Orissa.

Sachin should realise the reason why even his ardent fans feel cheated over the Ferrari tax waiver. The entire sequence of events has proved that there is more to this 'gift' than what is revealed. Michael Schumacher recognising a cricketing feat? Please keep such stories for the grandchildren.

Sachin, Saurav and the rest are on the right track !
by Chris Wijnants on Sep 06, 2003 03:44 AM

We in Europe are happy to learn about this secret regarding the good work that is being done in India by the young brigade of Indian cricket. As icons and national heroes, they command tremendous affection and good will of this great ancient nation of such diverse cultures and ethos. Right now their mission is to entertain and play good cricket to raise the spirits and moral of their brothers and sisters. This is a moment when doors will be opened for them for being involved in using their hero status for rebuilding the spirit of this great ancient nation that has in the past inspired the entire world. They are the greatest missionaries of hope to the entire nation and potential pillars for nation building. Gavaskar, Kapil, Kumble, Srinath, Prasad, Dravid, V.V.S.Laxman, Zaheer,Shewag, along with Tendulkar and Ganguly have the potential to bring about major changes in transforming the face of the great land called India instead of leaving it to the non attractive machinations of the politicians and funny priest craft of the missionaries. Cricket is the hope of the nation and the cricketers are realizing their mission. It is more than hitting the leather with a piece of wood !

by Rohit Patil on Sep 06, 2003 02:58 AM

If Tendular had kept a secret about charity, he is doing for past seven to eight year's, then what made him to reveal his secret after such a long time.

I think so media should have questioned him about this point.

Cheers!!
by Praveen.V.Annu on Sep 06, 2003 12:50 AM

This is a slap on the face of those people who had raised a brow when the duty on Tendulkar's Ferrari was waivered, saying that he is a stingy person and he could have easily afforded to pay the duty. For once he becomes selfish (mind you, this was not a car bought by him. Itslike someone giving you a gift and asking you to pay a whopping amount to take it home.) and the press is mad at him.

And as always great men do not speak of their good deeds. They just do it. Tendulkar was really forced into a situation where he had to admit and list out the charity he has been involved with.

He is a true Indian who loves his motherland and I am sure he would do his best to help the needy brothers and sisters of this country.
