Same Prem Panicker and rediff.com

Aren't you the same Prem Panicker who had dreamt Salvi to be Indian Glen Mcgrath or something few months back? How do you guys change your views over night? Just because of one game or something? If you can't be professional then how you expect others to be up their task.

Murali Karthik's exclusion is most unfortunate thing happened in recent years.

5 blind men ....
by Kamal on Nov 20, 2003 04:54 AM

I think we should find a way to convey this message to those 5 wise men. Am sure those 5 wise men aren't smart enough to get their hands onto a newspaper and read an article that describes their wisdom.

grand revival
by Dilip Mahanty on Nov 20, 2003 04:49 AM

Prem is 100% right. Our selectors must have blinkers on. I wonder if most of them have average IQ. Murli Karthik would have been my first choice after Tendulkar & Dravid even before Ganguly! The Aussies must be rubbing their hands in glee at the faux pas of Indian selectors and, may I add,Ganguly's- for not putting up a compelling case for Karthik like he did for Dasgupta! 5 mediocre pacemen to put the fear of God on batsmen weaned on fast bowling! What choice, what logic!Poor Karthik was outstanding with his flight, loop, turn to no avail! He is an attacking Test bowler not a defensive one day bowler even though he used intelligence and guile to prevent batsmen from attacking him!Like Vettori he would have troubled the Aussies.
God help India with such administrators and selectors.
The selection committee with two wicket keepers must have seen outstanding skill in Dasgupta!
Guess it is going to be a 4 nil drubbing unless weather takes a hand!

Murali Karthik
by Vamz on Nov 20, 2003 04:36 AM

I have an idea, get Karthik to immigrate to USA (extraodinary talent) and others who got the talent, field a Cricket team from USA. I am sure soon USA will have a Cricket team that kicks AUS.

Branded as blind for their short sightedness
by Sanjay on Nov 20, 2003 04:14 AM

Mr. Panicker:

I couldn't agree more with you. It is a shame that the a few soldiers in the Indian team let down millions of indians and a packed crowd of 125,000 people with their amatuerish acts. With all due respect, the 5 blind men should be Court Martialled for their deeds of not putting in their brains to work and gifting a defeat to a team which truely deserved to be rewarded. Waking up at an early hour to see the match on this side of the world, i was more than shocked to see the team composition. As Ponting said, toss does not make a difference, it is performance which will count at the end and not one iota of an effort was put into selecting the best team to ensure a victory or even a fight to say the least... In the land where Cricket is a religion, it is a shame to see such people (again with all due respect to their past cricketing careers) at the helm putting their fingers on the list of player to play all blind folded....It is time we think hard how to reach higher standards with such large pool of talent waiting to be proven....I hope someone does...

5 blind men

We seem to complain whenever there is a selection of Indian team. The reality is we cannot play consistently well. Whoever is picked has to have mental strength and perform to the best of his ability. If Kumble is omitted for Kartik, again we complain about ignoring the experience. I think we have to stop complaining and demand performance from the bunch we select instead of demoralizing the team. Everytime we go down under, we seem to make some controversies and live with it. It looks like everyone is nervous about aussie tour and it is not a good sign.

Selection is disgusting
by Kishore on Nov 20, 2003 03:24 AM

My frnds and myself got up at 4am Est to watch india play. well we were happy that somehow india managed to scrape through into the finals. but as usual i was totally disgusted midway into the indian innings. first of all laxman should be dropped, cause we dont want 20 runs from him and 5 dropped catches. salvi is not fit for ranji trophy. its sad that we have a bunch of idiots selecting the team and add to that a bunch of overpaid irresponsible people playing for the country. i am sure if i make my debut today and score a hundred i will make a few million and then i can sit on the team for the next few yrs. i just hope they send badani and kartik for the one dayers. our selectors never seem to select people who perform consistantly. oh well i aint watching the indians play in australia cause i dont want to see them getting beaten all ends up and then going about as if nothing happened while we fans sulk in sorrow of defeat.

Mohinder rightly said
by Sreenivas on Nov 20, 2003 03:14 AM

This article was excellent, not for the adjectives and verbs but for issue.

In this tournament whenever he was given an oppurtunity Karthik proved he is class. In the final it was actually his bowling that struck terror in aussies, as a result othe spinners also ended up with good figres. Can't our selectors distinguish class from pedestrians. Look at the variation in the flight, spin and angle of his bowling. One thing for sure, by not selecting Karthik Selctors committed a major mistake. He seems to be a good fielder too.

This guy commands respect from every aussie batsman , does not find a place in team. What the heck...

No wonder Pointing was confused. Mohinder said it right Our Selectors Are a Bunch Of Jokers.

Salvi is not the only one to blame
by dinesh on Nov 20, 2003 03:10 AM

In fact I will give him a benefit of doubt, he should not have been selected in the first place in place of a batsman. Many times I have seen your bias against the mumbai players (incl. your comments about agarkar in the recent past). Why? and why do you think Rayudu is ready for senior team. I think he has not even done better than his other mates in U19 team.
