Karthik- You deserve for what you did
by Shiva on Nov 20, 2003 09:35 AM

It is a shame to leave the best bowler of the country for Down Under. When they wanted to win the final, they included Kartik..I would have appreciated if they could have played Anil on the basis of experience. why they didn't? Now, someone wants to enjoy the one month tour at the behest of a nation's pride.

Seems our selectors want to be down under in the series..so, it makes sense on their part of selection process. i am not against anil but his prime is over..please leave way..i beg your pardon again..Please throw away your regional/personal bias and come out of the shell..still, you have time to include karthik..

i salute srinath for this..otherwise, few more khans and nehras should be waiting anxious..

Nightmare awaiting

Dont think it matters what bowlers you take to Oz. Its the batsmen that will again be exposed. As far as the batting line-up is concerned nothings's changed. Sachin, Saurva, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag etc etc etc. Remember New Zealand, Remember South Africa etc. Be ready again for 40 for 5 and 108 all outs!

No Cheers!

Cricket selection commitee
by dalip gambir on Nov 20, 2003 09:01 AM

I fully agree with Prem Panicker's comments. It will be criminal if a talent like Kartik is destroyed by the selection committee. Ganguly's comment after the team for Australia was announced was that Kumble was picked for his experience and Harbhajan because he has been India's top spinner for the last two years. Quite revealing that Ganguly did not comment on who is India's best spinner based on current form. Prem, what do you forsee for this guy( Kartik) going forward? Is he ever going to get his due? Also, can you explain the selection of Deep DasGupta. Clearly India is struggling to find an acceptable wicket keeper batsman. What is the story behind Nayan Mongia being out of favor? It would appear that there are factors other than merit that are in play in this case.

Prem Please do something!!
by Pavan Malladi on Nov 20, 2003 07:52 AM

hi,
Can Prem Panicker start a revolution where every Indian who will go to watch this game, will not do so because of the poor selection comitee decisions.
There should be some king of protest against the selection comitee which now is behaving like a Saddam Hussein i.e without any accountability for its actions.
Please do something, media guns, you sure cant save your weapons for better!!!

Selectors

If the selectors spent the best part of that three hours discussing about Murali Karthik and still not select him, probably the next time these selectors should not waste time so much on talking about cricket, instead can discuss about Karishma Kapoor's wedding (or was that, already the better part of their 3 hours)

5 blind men: excellent column
by Debu on Nov 20, 2003 06:23 AM

Whenever I think of these selectors my blood begins to boil. From the time I have been following cricket, its been these "bunch of jokers" who have conspired time and again to bring India down. They have been more successful than all the opposition put together, in breaking the back of many a promising talented cricketer. And Murali Karthik is just the latest example. I long for the day when these bunch of losers will rise above their parochial considerations and regional sentiments and select the team on pure merit. Anil Kumble has hung around much longer than his 'Expiration Date' and only in India its possible that somebody is selected more for his clout and name than his cricketing prowess. I call upon all cricket lovers to do whatever possible to stop this unjust treatment of this fine cricketer. Let these fools know that we cannot be taken for a ride anymore and the cricket team should be chosen professionally and not by the whims and fancies of 5 failed (most of the time) men who always have an axe to grind

Putting pressure on the selection board
by Srikanth Bedathur on Nov 20, 2003 05:20 AM

Honestly, do you think the selection board members really read
this article (or any similar article)? Even if they do, do you think it
will have ANY effect on them?

I agree with most of your views and I am sure most readers do
too. You write it, we read it, nod our heads in agreement, and
then....nothing really happens! As you suggested yourself, we
could as well be reading an old article with some new names in
it, and go on like this for ever!

I would like to hear your (and other readers') views on what can
be done to put pressure on the board to do their jobs right. Or
can be it done at all given the way it is governed?

Thanks!
