What has it got to do with Indian?
by Chris Mckiney on May 20, 2003 04:01 AM

I wonder what Foster says about Indian line of thinking as the first umpire to give a No-Ball to Murali was Australian and still he is not satisfied about the same.
With the so hyped "three dimensional analysis" if it really makes a true interpretation and analysis of bowling action, I suppose takes away the natural essence of game in the same way a computerised "leg before wicket" decision is yet not acceptable by ICC. Let the three umpires decide if the action is found suspected / wrong, be the bowler allowed to play in match or not. After all this is going against the better judgement of umpires on field who decide the validity of game, moreover in a matter where it's visibly possible for them to decide if bowling action is right or wrong.
Physical diability can not be a run away hole in the rules of cricket, may it be harsh on the diabled players.Anyone can play cricket with disability so long as it doesn't violate any cricket rules. There still can be international cricket for physically challenged players if case arises someone thinks the players are not given justice. But one can not put all other players at loss just because they don;t have any such "in born" disability.

Darryl Foster

Is this guy for real? What kind of racist comments is he making? It's not only in India that disabled people do not participate with normal people in sports. Hasn't he heard of the Special Olympics?

While his arguments about Murali are sound, because the law on throwing requires the elbow to straighten from the time the arm becomes horizontal to the point of delivery, even a blind man can see that Shoaib Akhtar chucks. Now how is it relevant whether he does it deliberately or because of a deformity? Foster is simply trying to fudge the issue to save his client.

As for his claim that almost every bowler chucks to some extent, what can anyone say? That's a bit like saying everyone in his childhood has stolen fruits off the neighbour's tree, so theft should be legalized.

The law on chucking is clear. There's no mention of 3D vision and all that jazz. Let the umpires do their job and bar those who chuck. Let not vested interests like Darryl Foster spoil the game further.

this is awful

i would like to ask the silly person that what if a person has only one hand . will he be allowed to bowl with it asa he is greater and more credidible case to show pity and justice than shoiab and murali . i think if chuckers are not banned then we will soon see one handed bowlers breaking 200 mile mark making batsmen like sachin , lara ponting look fools and destroying carriers of not only batsmen but many bow;ers. this has to stop
i am surprised at what is being said in the above column portraying both shoaib and murali as innonnocent and victim of nature.
the fact is that murali woudnt even take half his wickets and shoaib wouldnt be half the pace without their actions. it is not only playing with the carriers of hundreds of batsmen but also with record books as i think its insult that a chucker like murali would appear hight in rankings than that of hadlee, kapil, marshall, bedi, lille etc.

I wonder

I have a disability wherein my arm is bent at 43.39 degrees. I can spin the ball more than Murali and throw it faster than Shoaib at different times. Would the ICC let me bowl in First Class cricket?
Its all sounds so stupid with all the technical analysis going on about the deformities people have and how it is not throwing. I believe India can produce wonders if people are allowed to throw in the international arena.

Mr. Foster, Is it science??
by Pavan on May 20, 2003 12:23 AM

Sport is for happiness and for non- destructive competitiveness. Murali is a great bowler, as is shoaib, THey have got physical deficiencies, agreed? So, what should they do, Will you agree a blind/physically handicaped men guarding your borders, Mr. Foster. Will u agree to a person with out legs playing baseball reducing the strike jone and making the pitchers life difficult?

will you agree/ or will any sports federation accept a physically handicapped person playing a contact sport, I doubt it?

Human life is full of limitations and the success of some one in overcoming these limitations is what is life all about. Murali did a great thing, as did shoaib though batsman with their not so perfect eyes, and the help of Mr. Foster and his institute in deciding the control over the ball will always have problems facing those bowlers with advantageous physical attributes? However, nothing stops the cricket bodies from barring these players from doing an activity they are not capable of performing with arising doubts to a common man ignorant of technology and Mr. Foster's of the world. Hope a response comes from Mr.Foster for his accusation of INDIANs based on bedi's comment?
