by Rahul on Jun 06, 2003 11:16 AM

What made u publish this article?

As for Mr. Krishna...i would rather ignore him and his theories...

Just a little curious, rediff...Did u validate his claims of being in touch with Mr.Buchanan?

Tunga is right

I endorse Tunga's theory (of India making it to the final). The 2003 World Cup will go down in the history of cricket as one of the most wierdest.

How could one explain, a bunch of no-hopers, who were battered and bruised down under by Stephen Fleming's motley crew, reach the final! Had it not been for the points laid down by Tunga, India wouldn't have made it that far.

I guess ur fundamentals on cricket are as bad as this dude. India did better as the wickets were different. Who says that wickets that support lateral movement are the best for cricket. SA wickets were more true and hence better performance. NZ did better than india as they have 10 batsmen in a team and in a low scoring match, u can expect them to win against a team like India which relies on top 6 heavily.

Faisal Shariff and his 'expert' should be fired and even better removed from the news..the whole thing is pathetic and rediff should do something urgently to gain some credibility to the articles it is publishing..if ya aint hire good people to write., why dont you outsource news from some better credible news agency..how pathetic indian news standards !!!! i have been seeing people just using fancy words and whole lotta crap just because they aint got a stuff to say !!

As Stupid as it gets
by Cricket fan on Jun 05, 2003 08:34 PM

This article demonstrates the increasingly lower bar set by rediff while publishing articles. Either it is due to the lack of cricketing activities in India or due to the editors lenience, the deteoration in quality preferred over quantity is both marked and painful especially for die hard fans of rediff. The above article is mediocre at best

Too much will damage!
by Thirunavukarasu on Jun 05, 2003 07:35 PM

I wonder how he is able to determine the intention of a player.

For example, if a batsman attacks, it can be positive, suicidal, or even frustrated.

I will not be surprised if he includes the following factors in the so called analysis.

1. decibel level of noise from pavilion, the opposite end

or

2. nature of the leather used in the ball

3. age of the source animal when it died

4. plants consumed by that animal

5. fertilizers used by that plant

etc...

Yes, he might argue that all these factors influence the surface of the ball and hence the game.

Too much of analysis may not help always.

As we all know, cricket is just a game between ball and bat. One got to go and play positively.

The perceived gain by these techniques will be offset by the overhead involved in it.

Good, new and interesting way of looking at things. Looking at the process is the new way of doing things. They will be helpful most times than not. But, unfortunately, stats or form do not always determine results. Eg: England lost to minnows australia in a soccer match, Australia seemed to lose direction against West Indies after the fourth test loss. True, according to form and stats, Australia should have won the world cup and it did. But, then how do you explain the loses now? You do give an explanation supported by statistics like Gilly playing at No. 3 and field placings in certain overs. Do these not apply to the indian wins and loses too? Like, Rahul batting consistently at No. 5 or 6. Your way of looking at the game is interesting, sounds scientific and should receive a good look-see. Lets wait and see. Best wishes.

Try to appericate Team workl
by Raja on Jun 05, 2003 12:40 PM  | Hide replies

It is nonsense to tell that India came to finals just because other teams didn't play well.

I think he is not talking about the cricket world cup in south africa.

He don't know what is team work and how it helped India in reaching the final.

It is the team India which has crossed the barriors and reach the finals not the individuals.

I think he didn't saw any world cup mataches.

In each and every match we can see someone other than tendulkar has shined.

Like Nehra against England

Srinath in almost all matches

Ganguly against Kenya

Dravid with good scores

and others

Please go through the matches again and then comment and try to get some knowledge about circket.

I agree - India has the very best team in the world. Unfortunately they rarely come together and play as a well-oiled team. We have brilliant displays of cricket from individuals one one side. While some people remain in perpetual slump - e.g. Mongia.

We need to play smart - like Australia, and like a spirited team - Kenya. Needing a Kapil Dev to help us get the World Cup.
