There is no point in India wasting money on such events, they don't create lasting economic benefit . The argument for sports infrastructure falls flat if you look around on how the facilities constructed for national games decays once the games circus is over. Even in cities like Bangalore, the stadiums are used more for poultry shows, dog exhibitions, etc than for sporting events. For as long as we don't have a sporting culture, there is no point losing sleep over such games. When even developed countries struggle with the economic hole these games leave behind, why should India get dragged into the mess? Just to satisfy some ego?

Kalmadi is a nonsense fellow. He is interested in filling his pockets. What are we going to do by hosting the games when we do not have the ability to rake in more than 10 medals? It is better putting this money to use in developing sports infrastructure. As for people who argue why Commonwealth games are being hosted, I say Asian games decision was better late than never.
I dont know whether Aiyar did this intentionally or to save his ass, but this is the right decision at the moment

In hindi there is a saying that "Angoor Khatte hai". When he was not able to win the bid he goes on to say that it was not worth it.

Get your facts right - he said the same that even during the bid. In fact Kalmadi started blaming Aiyar's statement for the loss!

Hello Minister...

Whata statement...Why did u bid for the games, investing so much money for the bidding process...Had you saved it I am sure it could be around 1-2 crores.. Dont try to save ur ass..and talk nonsense. Bloody politicians.. I think you must also pull out from Commenwealth games in Delhi if you could save so much of money by not hosting a sports event..

I agree with Guru Prasad....It is a shame to loose out hosting ASIAD to Korea. Mani Aiyar has been talking a lot crap of late, like his statement that he is the right candidate for heading the MEA.....it is time he is shown the door for being stupid and talking without thinking.

If he is so relieved by this failure, why bid in the first place.... we try to find solace in our losses too.... it is ok if the minister really invests the saved amount in developing infrastructure in this country... but will he? or the saved money will go into the pockets of babus and bureaucrats....?
