I am neither a fan of Mani nor a fan of Congress. But in the instant case (like in many other cases), Aiyer seems to make lot of sense. What is the use of concentrating all the resources to one event making it advantageous to one or two cities, probably already well developed ones? Instaed of that spending this money for basic infrastructure makes long term sense. Having said that, now questions for Mr Mani: 1. What makes you think that 5000 crore will be utilized properly? I will bet that more than 80% will go in to the deep pockets of corrupt contractors who will throws some breadcrumbs to all and sundry political wag-tails
2. If you are feeling relieved by failure of bid, why did we even try to bid? I am sure quite a few crores have been spent in preparing the proposals, making trips for presenting the proposals. Could you not have used that money to provide at least the midday meal to the starving but budding bubbly girls of Bihar dreaming to be swimming champions? You are in the place where your voice gets heard - did you make an attempt to stop that? Now it only seems like the 'sour grapes' from the fables

Very well said. Aiyer is talking sense and he might even be honest about the purpose but it seems he too wants all this to happen just by itself.

Not just China but many Arab countries Like Qatar, UAE, Iran, Saudi Arabia were much ahead of India in Medals tally in the olympics & at Asain games. Saarc games is still the best grounds for India.
surely our sport minister doesnt deserve to be a sports minister, he'd rather be a rural minister. whats a minister who doesnt do his job ? why participate in the bidding at all ? why do we need the sports ministry at all ? why's he wasting the country's money earning as a sports minister ? why not lease those stadiums to earn some money for the exchequer ?
too many thoughts come to my mind. his actions and words have made us a laughing stock. im sure the koreans might be laffing thier butts off.

We need Medals either be in 2008 Oly or 2010 C W or 2014 Asiad, Host should atleast come to some stage.. with so much Population, we just see our people lose... and again big sorrow for us...
One more issue, they would spend so much for the Asiad, then those houses will be sold to Policos and so called stars at throw away prices, those Stadiums will not be allowed for Poor, only Rich can afford, does we need this??
If am wrong I apologize..... but its happening and am see it.... SAF Games, our office is there and I know its Conditions, those tracks are not available for poor, no support people... That Swimming pool, dont know what purpose its used now...

assignment and now does something always to draw attention of the media.Only if our PM had guts ,this man should have been shown the door immediately after India lost the bid. Since he is Sonia chum ,PM cant do any thing.Who is stopping this man to interact with Tatas,Ambanies,Ruias,Sunil Mittal,Vijay Mallya,Amhitabh Bachhan,Azim Prem Ji,Infosysis, aanndd.. Laxmi Nivas Mittal,Sant Chatwal,Channraias,Mehtas,that famous Lord Pauletc. etc. you talk of 5000crores I am sure you can bring 50000crore.But tell me MANI,in India you have problem of availability of funds or delivery system.Remember what Rajiv said about delivery efficiency?
