Every thing that glitters are not gold
by sajith h on Nov 10, 2007 09:59 PM  | Hide replies

what a let down by the director sanjay leela bansali. i heard that popularity can make a person blind and it really happened here.

i felt i was in the prison and the moment i got out the theatre from dubai i was rushing to find some lights and fresh clours to refresh my mind set. i still not finish with the head ache. people were cursing and leaving before the interval.

i dont understand for a simple story how can somebody give such complicated treatment. i heard sanjay has not watched movies like munna bai mbbs and some class movies of other different directors which he revealed in koffe with karan show.

i think it is purely attitude which lead to this and he should now start seeing movies of others as well otherwise he will have to show onlypoor movies under his belts in future .

The usage of blue backgroud and blue costumes gave rise to a blue fobia for some hours! though the songs are awesome the sequences where the songs arise in the movie are painfull and u end up saying oh no not again. We would also see the boats moving like jets in some of the scenes.

Saawariya was the most disappointing movie of the year.

Sanjay who made some real award bagging movie classics but this time he can really go to the award functions to only give away the awards and not to get a single one.

I would also like to wish both the newcommers a very good luck ahead.

SAAWARIYA A GREAT GREAT EFFORT
by on Nov 10, 2007 09:35 PM

Congrats Bhansali on being boldly different! An amazingly creative film which kept us rivetted to our seats ! Hauntingly beautiful music which is nothing short of a being a classic. In Ranbir a star is born. Art direction, the colors, the hues, the ambience is simply poetry at its best. My wife and I would want to watch this movie several times again !

Saawariya is for the people who love Ghalib's poetry
by on Nov 10, 2007 09:08 PM  | Hide replies

To me Saawariya is one of the most creative Hundi films ever made. It is for the people who admire Ghalib's poetry, writings of Paulo Coelho, Mughal paintings, colours of Morocco....
It is visual poetry in black, blue and green which could be appreciated only by the people with a particular taste.
Masses may not understand or appreciate Saawariya, but I dont think that Bhansali is afraid of being disliked.
Even Ghalib did not gain much fame during his lifetime.
Both Ranvir and Sonam are brilliant and sincere actors and Rani deserves credit for her acting.
Bhansali has made all Gujaratis proud by making Saawariya, by showing the fine taste that we Gujjus possess. Congratulations.

Very true !!! Sawariyan is a magnificent poetry!!! But evolution is a painfully slow process and most people will not like it.
I also watched OSO and it hit the right audience. A sense less fun ride to laugh and clap and forget your miseries but come out empty. Sawariyan is a haunted ghazal which stays with you. Magnificent art of work!

Brother get out of the gujarati fixation & look at the larger canvas. He is making money outta you gullible souls...his been a Gujju is no use if he keeps on making such trash. Infact he is the deplorable depth of Gujjuism...His black was more SINDHI/Chinese (Original Copy)then I anything I have seen in recent times. He is nothing but Ramu of RGV Fames ALTER EGO

Brother I did not like Black much, but Saawariya is Bhansali's best so far, where he has dared to reveal what he likes to visualise. In Om Shanti Om Farah Khan has made fun of Gujarati producers and directors, which cannot be taken lightly. Bhansali has imbibed a lot from his childhood experiences, from his parents and their culture. If you find this film trash I am not going to force you to like it. We live in a democracy. So you can have your opinion. There is nothing wrong in being inspired by creativity of others. But Saawraiya is an excellent portrayal of great literature. And yes as a Gujarati I am proud of Bhansali just as Bengalis would be proud of Satyajit Ray. And I also know that like all Gujaratis Bhansali is a global citizen, not confined to any place, any time frame, or any culture. Let me thank you for coining a new term Gujjuism. I shall try to define and expand it.

SAAWARIYA - VISUALLY BAD-MADE-MOVIE
by manish choudhary on Nov 10, 2007 08:46 PM

I had a very high expectation of Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB)
But to my surprise Saawariya was highly disappointing.

It was one movie I will remember because it has crashed all expectations.
Its very easy to call this movie a FLOP. But only honoring the respect I
carried for SLB after Hum Dil De Chuke.... & Black I will only comment moderately.
SLB YOUR MOVIES GIVES A IMPRESSION THAT YOU ARE A EXTREMELY OBSESSED PERSON.
For Hum Dil De Chuke.... & Black worked in your favor but Saawariya was bad.

You have used two new comers (Ranbir & Sonam) who well justified your faith in them.
They did a fairly OK job. But what story you were trying to say. And above all
see the manner in which you presented that weak story to the audience.
Your movie is like a 5- STAR hotel with a poor service to offer. Externally your
movie is very beautiful but without soul. Not for a second it touched the heart.

So much mellodrama that it was actually frustration to keep one self seated for the
entire coarse of your movie. Your use of Salmaan was bad.
The generation that goes in to watch the movies will never relate to your concept &
presentation.

Sorry SLB, BUT SAAWARIYA WAS VISUALLY BEAUTIFUL BAD-MADE-MOVIE.

Saawariya - daring to be different
by on Nov 10, 2007 08:39 PM  | Hide replies

While the Indian audiences can relate with the OSO throwbacks to the seventies, I would doubt that many would have read Fyodor Dostoevsky's White Nights or seen the versions made by Luchino Visconti or Fellini. So for all practical purposes Saawariya is different to bollywood lovers.....the sets, the cast, the sparsely or non populated neighbourhood, the dream like mood all through and most of all the 'sad' ending where hero does not get his heroine after all. All difficult to digest for those used to the general bollywood formula. Bhansali has tried to evoke a lyrical love story and its best to take it as that. Ranbir and Sonam are more than appealing - their freshness, their youth and a sense of innocence pervade through their performance. So as far as I can say, I liked it because it was oh so very different. As for copying or taking off from Hollywood films - the the name tag 'bollywood' itself stands for that now - so lets not blame Bhansali alone.

With due respect to arthouse fans(I am one of them myself), this is a pathetic movie even by Hollywood box office. SLB exaxtly knew the audience that he was catering to and also gave a wide release to it as if it's made for the masses. He is himself responsibe for burning his fingers.

I think the movie was very good. Mr. Bhansali did not alter the story 'white nights' to play safe. Sonam is beautiful. Ranbir is already a star. The song picturisations were out of this world.

He is the most pretentious director in my book. The movie was sooooo artificial... There's no way one can relate to it.

bhansali is copycat
by nitn on Nov 10, 2007 07:55 PM

Not many people know that "Black"(1st half) was scene by scene copy of a old hollywood movie "miracle worker". I have seen storyline getting copied, style getting copied, but i never saw something so blatant.
That is why there are such high expectations from Bhansali
