Periyar & Rediff
by Anusha R on May 02, 2007 05:35 PM  | Hide replies

Rediff seems to be having the promotional rights of Periyar... first they have started with an interview of the director and much discussion happend between the readers about Hindu, Muslim, FC, OBC/ST/SC etc. Then they came out with a slide slow of 'making of the Periyar'..again it called for much more discussion within the readers... now they are coming out with a review and rating the film 4.wah wah.. Even if I am not interested in knowing about the man who is called Periyar, whose thinking and approach is still taking Tamil Nadu to 400 years back, with all these hypes, people tend to watch the movie, thus making the theatres full, reaping the harvest by the producer/director...maiking Rediff also rich.
Rediff slowly would turn in to a filmy/film star's portal

If it takes us 2000 years back, I'll be happy. It'll be a sensible Tamil society with culture and science before unbelievably STUPID people split it along caste lines.

I strongly disagree the words "taking tamil nadu to 400 year back" Because of him the Religious and caste tolerance increased in tamil nadu. Most of the sc,ST, MBC peoples came up in life and enjoying equal rights in tamil nadu. Other wise the so called upper class people would have ruined the lower class people's life.

Most of the other states in india needs atleast 5 periyars to save the innocent peoples from upper caste people and religious saints

Regards

Raj

A biased rating
by parthasarathy sarathy on May 02, 2007 05:31 PM  | Hide replies

To give 4 out 5 to a film on the most destructive Tamilian mind of the 20th century is possible only from a biased columnist. EV Ramasamy Naicker as the theme of a film is not something to say wow about, either in terms of ideology or in terms of results for the past 70 years. One can aptly say, "vengaayam" (onion) as EV Ramaswamy Naicker used to say for everything.

Run out of steam, friend? I would not like to stoop down to your level and use a similar language but honestly, I did not think that a EVRN follower will be forced to shut up in just two sentences.

I know your rationalism of No Hindu God but dare not say ever that there is no Christian God or Muslim God. Your avowed rationalism is sheer hypocrisy. EVRN's rational thinking said that all women should sleep with as many men as possible to get equality of gender rights. If that is your rationality, I have no complaints. He said that Tamil is a barbaric language and licked British boots saying that British rule should continue in TN at least. Very rational? What rationalism are you talking about in the context of Ramasami Naicker?

Unlike you guys, I do not need a mask and can boldly say what I have to say in my own name and defend it with history of EVR Naicker himself. Only cheap fellows like you will try to pick on personal names for comments because you people have no way of faulting my arguments. Bruised on the field of ideology or the lack of it, you guys can only resort to this sort of an attack. It only reiterates my points.

Right Partha.. All that this Periyar did was to humiliate Brahmins..under the pretext of social justice..could not stand Brahmins shining in every field those days..i have read some of his speeches and the language that he uses is filthy to say the least.. and his so called "ideologies" are being propagated by the biggest hypocrites of the tamil era -karunanidh and Veeramani..

So, you will be content if such common men destroy the state and the perceived enemies? And you concede that TN has not been better off for EVRN's and his follower's antics? The persecution of Brahmins in TN, led by EVRN and his followers, is the worst in human history, worse than the persecution of Jews by Nazis. But, EVRN said that it will be all honey and milk in TN the moment the Brahmin is wiped out. Having achieved that objective, has there been improvement? TN is possibly the worst administered state in India for the past 40 years, Bihar and UP included.

Unable to fight ideologically or in decent language, this is what one can expect from EV Ramaswamy Naicker's followers and I am not surprised. I did not say perungaayam but your own EVRN said vengaayam to any question that he could not answer. So, what you are saying is that my quoting of EVRN is not acceptable even to an acolyte like you.
