Mumbai??????
by Rishad Cooper on Apr 19, 2011 11:30 AM  | Hide replies

Mumbai being a leading city........ has to be the cruelest joke of the century. Its one of the most un-liveable cities in the world. Crowds of people everywhere, insufficient public transport, traffic means inter city travel is a nightmare, terrible weather, filthy conditions everywhere, expensive, water shortages, what are we talking about.
This is a city going backwards, not forward.

You must be living in a zopda in Dharavi since your lifestyle does not describe those exposed to the affluent upper middle class life style of Mumbai

Read English again above Survey is about world's leading hubs means hub for doing business, MNC's, Technology, knowledge. Not for transport, traffic.

Mumbai has potential
by Avijeet Singh on Apr 17, 2011 03:35 PM

Its a matter of time before people wake up to the reality of corrupt Congress and chose a better party to rule them. Mumbai has improved over last two decades, and will continue to improve. Development in Bihar will surely stop the influx as it has already done in Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat.

Buddy, Burj Khalifa is just a construction built on borrowed money. That's why Dubai is sinking now. On the other hand, Mumbai is India's business behemoth. It houses India's top industrial houses, hosts India's capital market, boasts her corporate address. Mumbai is the financial and commercial capital of the country as it generates 6.16% of the total GDP. It serves as an economic hub of India, contributing 10% of factory employment, 25% of industrial output, 33% of income tax collections, 60% of customs duty collections, 20% of central excise tax collections, 40% of India's foreign trade and Indian Rupee ₹4,000 crore (US$888 million) in corporate taxes. Dubai is all hype no substance. Don't have a touristy view of Mumbai in comparison with Dubai. Whatever you may feel about it, Mumbai will remain on top of India's corporate list. And don't blame Rediff for ranking..it didn't do the ranking. Knight Frank Global Cities Survey did it. The world knows what's Dubai and Mumbai. Grow up. Don't bring your personal prejudices here. And I am not from Mumbai to speak so passionately about it. I just stated the facts.

yes, Rediff says: Seoul is the biggest Metropolitan city in the world; certainly not. If SEoul's metropolitan population is 24.5 Millions, as per Rediff, Mumbai/ Delhi/ Tokyo/ Mexico - are certainly bigger than this! May be Cairo and Jakarta / Sao Paulo are also bigger than Seoul.

I am from Mumbai and am quite proud of it too. But I dont agree even a wee bit of this info. I have traveled to NYC, London, HK, SG, Shanghai. Thats about 5 cities in the list. Mumbai unfortunately stands NOWHERE.

When I say this I am not saying this make a joke but say it with pain and grief.

London is a city I stopped over on my way to NYC and spent 2 days but it was totally an amazing city though I looked for "garbage areas". Strangely the garbage areas were only where Indians and Pakistaniz lived.

some ppl you are...it is a pride thing that Mumbai is the 7th city and u ppl are wasting ur time trying to prove that it shouldn't be. No wonder India's progress is so slow...because its own citizens are not supportive. bohat sharam ki baat hai.

If you had been abroad (London, Paris, Dubai, whatever), then you would now that no Indian city deserve 7th place! Maybe in economy, but not in economy per head, and certainly not in garbage where it is N°1 in the world.

No pride in false praise madam/sir . If i say you are the most beautiful person o earth, would that be reason enough for you to be proud of ? Reality is a much better educator than flattery. We have enough pride in India , dont need any more. What we need is progress and for that we need to know exactly where we stand
