FALL OF FAME.....
by NK SHAIKH on Jan 08, 2010 01:34 PM

THANX TO OUR PARENTS AND OUR NEIGHBOURS,the constant comparison between siblings and relatives and our neighbours childrens has forced childrens to take such decission and attempt suicide, and let me say now a days schools has introduced maximum number of tests, whn i was in school thr used to be just 2 tests and 2 exams, and yet i came out with flying colours, making my parents feel proud of me,mr. sibbal took some great initiatives but so far schools and state govts are not willing to impliment those plans which will direct benefit every student, and wht ever little was left thanx to our t.v. channels ,they actually ruined our culture and spread vulgarity, the number of reality shows based on childrens are alarming threat to the society bcz in that a 8 yrs old child is made to think that if he performs well he can win 50 lacs prize money and fame, parents ruthlessly treat their childrens like cattles..and make them slog for hours rehearsing for dancing or songs..its a shame and disgrace the kind of human rights violation is in effect..govt has to stop all reality shows at the earliest..and all serials that has childrens as central characters..

counseling the parents and teachers
by Chanakya on Jan 08, 2010 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

my eldor son in 11th and daughter is in 7th this year..as parents we adopt a balancing situation at home - my wife sometime get hyper on them on their studies and marks and this is the time I counsel them and keep them cool to do their best in next.

However, what I understand from them from time to time is that the teachers, particuparly in english medium/convent schools have a tendency to pick each and every silly errors and give the lease marks in prilims etc. with an excuse that more marks in prilims would make the student take it easy for the finals. The correction of answer papers and marks too, some time, depends upon the mental state of the teachers as it was proved in a couple of occasions when my son got a couple of marks more that his peer who have written it better.
Parents, on their part pass on too much of pressure on kids by sending them for various specialised tuitions at different places for different subjects making the kid's life miserable with loads and loads of homeworks and problem solvings, over and above the usual school stuff.
We can save the young kids only by changing our approach towards them and for which we need to have:
counseling of the teachers at school by either a duly constituted body or NGOs, counselers
counseling of the parents together with teachers
verifcation of answer papers by a govt authority to ensure that the marks are given correctly.
special counseling to students who are not so bright with their parents.

Some counselling should be given to would be parents and teachers. My children in 8th & 6th have their teachers making life miserable for them at school and their mother making life difficult at home. Just for the sake of stupid marks. They never get time to play, enjoy, watch TV and read comics/news papers.
School starts early at 8:00 am, so the misery starts at 6:00 am. Why can't all the schools start at 9:30, so that children can get some decent sleep. When students ask teacher a doubt, she slaps them and asks them to sit quietly. More than 60 students per class and 3 students per bench. Dirty toilets in school. Bullying of children by older students. Fee receipts given by schools are not accepted by Income-Tax dept, because receipts do not have school name/address and receipt number on them.

Absolute chaos. The govt/BMS are sleeping....

parents should act true guides rather than to become fortune makers for their children. education system needed to be changed entirely. reasonable compition among children is acceptable but unnecessary comparison bring in anger and frustration among children. Society comprises of parents and teachers should have more mature thoughts

suicide Prevention
by M Shankar on Jan 08, 2010 01:27 PM

Severe competition and constant comparisons are driving children towards depression leading to suicides. Parents must start spending more time listening to their children. finding out their aptitude, interests and encourage them accordingly. If children desires are beyond their budget, they must frankly share their financial position and jointly look out for a solution rather than thrust decisions on them. Children must learn not to fear parents; instead love them and share their feelings. There is no need for every child to be number One; there are many success stories of children who had an average academic session.

STUDENT SUICIDE
by tapati gupta on Jan 08, 2010 01:23 PM

ONE MUST REALISE THAT ACADEMICS IS NOT EVERYONES CUP OF TEA.. THERE SHOULD BE A COUNCILLER TO TAP THE POTENTIAL OF A STUDENT AND GUIDE THEM TO THE RIGHT FIELD FROM A YOUNG AGE ,BE IT MUSIC , TECHNOLOGY OR ART.
THIS IS THE ONLY WAY . THE GOVT MUST TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO ENSURE THAT NO ADDITIONAL PRESSURE IS IMPOSED ON STUDENTS. IT IS EQUIVALENT TO MURDER

According to me, what is missing is the communication and rapport with our kids. It is the parents' tendency to give child all that he demands. But do we give them enough time and listening? What is the dialouge we have with our kids?
