Media pressure!
by Srinivasan Iyer on Mar 10, 2011 07:46 PM  | Hide replies

It is unfortunate that the Indian team is suffering from too much media pressure. T^V anchors and also the experts on the panels are causing more problems than helping the team. The team has been selected and it is now criticizing why someone eg Chawla was chosen. Any leg spinner can have a bad day incl the great Shane Warne! Leg spinners require confidence of the caotain. We have had great leg spinners like Subash Gupte, C.S.Nayudu and even S.G.Shinde. They were successful because of the confidence that Vijay Merchant gave them and they got wickets by the bagful. Chawla is not himself as a result of the pressure and is bowling too flat and not pitching the bowl right on middle and off. It is stupidity to bring him on during batting power play yesterday instead of bringing on the seamers. Why blame only Chawla? Can anyone justify the performance of India's so called strike bowler- a favourite of Dhoni- Bhajji. Not a single wicket in 4 matches is a record of sorts for one of our best strike bowler! Why not drop him and take Ashwin as an off spinner? He is bowling too wide on the leg stump and only bowling a negative length. We need wickets from him! So. please, please, let the armchair critics and the media please lay off Chawla and allow him to perform. The media again pressurised Dhoni to send Pathan earlier- an erroneous decision. w should have stuck to our original line up when Sehwag and Sachin were playing as if in a T20 game.

Good thought. I also agree to some extent with Dhoni persisting with Piush chawala. Harbhajan is in playing 11 only for sake of reputation. But he may bounce back in any game since he has a class. Therefore, same 11 can be played against SA on 12th.

Gavaskar has class. similarly Kapil dev has class. Srikanth has class. Solkar has class.
Many classes makes a school & Rajeev sisodie will be the principal. Shit.....

You are correct on many points. The corporate media is as loose as Dhoni himself and they should hold their tongues before over-criticising a budding player like Chawla. He is there because he has qualities and definitely he is a good leg-spinner although it is clear that he needs more work to become world class. However I am suspicious that Dhoni is very adamant about picking him in the team and not giving any chance to Aswin. It is very unfair indeed. But I dont agree that anybody can pressurize Dhoni to choose anyone because Dhoni owns the media and the support of rich corporations. He understands the games of creating media pressure and the revenue that can be generated. He has engulfed our lives by appearing in hundreds of ad commercials, so that he appears in every shop ,tv , every corner of street and everywhere I look. It is called pressurizing ordinary Indians to take up a particular way of life and I am fed up with it. I can bet you that if he stands in election from a relatively rich constituency tomorrow he will win hands down. So the media pressurizing him is a farce, it is Dhoni using the media pressurizing ordinary people.

Infact Juhi Chawla is much more senior to Ashwin. When Juhi cannot handle pressure/cannot bowl in the power plays which a Ashwin Or Ojha can do, then what crap posting ar u Iyer doing...

I agree with Srinivasan Iyer. Arm chair critics and media should not dictate what the captain should do. Playing Yusuf Pathan higher up the order was not correct. He should play after Yuvi or Dhoni and win matches.

Don't say about confidence boss..Chawla debuted long back ..cricket is all about managing pressure ..one of the most important attribute a bowler or batsman should have .. if you have been selected in the national team for playing in such a big event you ought to do it ..

"It is stupidity to bring him on during batting power play yesterday"

Wow..so this guy is an international player! And he should be kept hidden away from power play. YOu mean a part time bowler like Yuvi can bowl in powerplay, but this Chawla whose only job is contributing with the ball...he needs to be shielded from the batsman during powerplay.

Does he have any problem when it is time to go and collect his paycheck? Or go and bowl in TV advertisements?

What next? Shall we send him a milk in a bottle when the powerplay begins? Diapers maybe?

Batting strategy
by Rajeev Sisodia on Mar 10, 2011 07:25 PM  | Hide replies

India and Dhoni should stick to its established batting order.
Sehwag
Sachin
Gambhir
Virat
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Pathan
Harbhajan
Ashwin/Chawala
Zaheer
Munaf /Nehra

However, Pathan and Harbhajan must be used as floaters in the batting order. Yousaf must come in to bat around 40th over at fall of any wicket. After he spends 3-4 overs, batting power play must be taken. Sachin and Gambhir need to play sober innings and allowing likes of Sehwag, Dhoni, Pathan, Yuvraj and Virat fire all cylinders.

In batting power play, sixes and fours are attempted unintelligently and many wickets are lost. Further, when power play is taken, the specialist strike bowlers are introduced by the bowling team and the batting team loses wickets. When the team is already scoring well, batting power play should be postponed to the 46 to 50 overs.
