No use blaming players alone
by kskumar on May 13, 2010 03:44 PM

The blame should be equally borne by BCCI which will do anything to fill its coffers. Ask them to conduct a match at Siachen or Alaska or Siberia and promise them enough money and they would do that too. Why can't they hold IPL later?

IPL as benchmark was a mistake
by abdul nazeer on May 13, 2010 03:42 PM  | Hide replies

The BCCI has forgotten domestic cricket and now only concentrating on IPL, whoever performs in IPL is getting selected, whatever he does in IPL gets noticed. Raina is also been hyped and finally he got captaincy so easily, just a season and IPL to support his credentials. He didnt do much with UP (his domestic team). IPL can be good, but domestic tournament should be a bench mark for national selection, IPL can support the cause but cannot be 'ONLY' criteria. Srikanth is a waste.

Look at the messages here !!

The Indian Cricket fans have now become vertically split down the middle and across because of IPL's iconic player support. Non-CSK supporters hate Dhoni (as much as referring to him as Dhobhi)and hence would want the Indian Team to do badly because it is under CSK captain. The KKR fans (eastern india) is upset with all other teams because their interest (Dada) is no more part of the team. Less said about the Marathi manoos - they lost out to CSK and they are still smarting under that. Added to that is the fact that Sachin is not playing. Sehwag fans are disappointed because he is not there and, therefore, if Dhoni's team fails, it probably is because Sehwag's absence up the order. Kannadigas are totally upset because Uthappa was not given a chance and finally Deccan Chargers are unhappy because Ojha is not in the team. I dont think UV, with his attitude, can have any passionate and ardent fans, unlike the fans of other players - except for his female fans for entirely not-cricketing reasons.

Under this scenario, the only set of Indian Fans who were rooting for Indian success was CSK fans - for obvious reasons. This does not make them any more patriotic than other fans.

Under the circumstances, it is funny to say that the players were playing for money (IPL) and not for national pride (country)

last bit of the reminder part of this message to continue in the next...

thats well said mira, there is not national unity with the public, and the players themselves didnt get any chance to get along because of very short time. Sport can unite countries but will split a country as well if this trend follows

Imagine that just 2 days before Harbhajan and Dhoni were plotting to get each other out (same with other team players) in IPL. Wont it take some bit of time for these guys to get adjusted mentally to each other?

Did we (Board) give them the time?

This is utter b*u*l*l*s*h*i*t. People do play in Counties but when they play for their countries, the only thing they keep in mind is success for country. But here nothing matters. Just tell me how well Gambhir,Bhajji,Yuvi,M.Vijay,Dhoni,Yusuf and Rohit performed this season. They were dismal except a few matches. Only Raina and Zaheer were better and here only raina performed above avearge. This is nothing but lack of application and in some of them lack of talent. Almost all batsmen are Kings of flat tracks and Zak and Bhajji are no more strike bowler. Bhajji was the worst who failed to take a single wicket.Dhoni and pathan hardly could manage a strike rate of just over 100 when it was needed most. Shame.

Meera,
Stop this...it nothing makes sense... In that sense, Foregn players also played for IPL and they are having close freind also from Indian team..but that is not creating probke...even in Ranji you play against each other.. then that also should have affected...see in the football... how they play for club and then while playing for nation they forget club and stand for nation...

Who the hell asked them to play in IPL in the first place ?
Second: Don't be so Naive
Third : Its nothing to do with east /west/north or South -- Dhobi is a politician and scum plain and simple --- Don't belive me -- go watch the tape when sachin was named MOM in the Sri Lanka Finals and watch Dhobi's face turn from smile to frown when they announce Sachin's name

Watch the match where Dhobi seemed to deny Tendy his 200 by keeping tandy off strike for almost 3 overs.

I used to be a fan of Dhobi , bit recent events ( 2 years) has had me disillusioned. Dhobi is the typical Indian who is envious of his own countrymen's achievements

I totally agree with Sameer. This guy first said indirectly to throw seniors like sachin and dravid out, when he was named captain. That was india in england just before the first T20 WC. Sachin then opted out of T20 and ganguly and Dravid were not picked. That was the time when even selectors thought what Dhoni showed them. Now Sachin has proved in last two versions of IPL that he is B*A*A*P of kids like dhoni. T20 was a game of younsters, this is waht he had said that time, now what the hell are these youngsters doing the whole world is evident. He in arrogance did not drop Jadeja for WI match to justify his decision and he was murdered by Gayle and co. Piyush could have been a better choice surely against WI since they cant play quality spin and big turns. He continued wid his CSK team mate M.Vijay, until the things went impossible for india to survive. And in the last match being a captain he should have lead by example, instead he played like a dead duck in slog overs.

IPL is a entertainment and nothing else. You are talking as if we are From West Indies, were all are different countries, like Guyana, Jamiaka, Trinidad & Tobogo, Barabados. But these West Indies people though they are from different countries could not talk in manner in which you have explained about Pro CSK and Anti CSK, It is just your imagination. U People Ideolige so much the so called stars that you built temples of all the Stars. There might be a Temple for Dhoni in Chennai. Talk in the manner of Nationalism not like regionalism.

It doesnt take too much intelligence to see that IPL is ruining Indian cricket.
No coincidence that both T20 WC's immediately after the IPL's have been a disaster and INdia won the one prior to which no IPL was there.

We are fools to give so much of importance to cricket. For short term entertainment there is no better game than Hockey - our national game. I'm sure many people might have forgotten that. We fools make these guys hero. How many of you cheer our womens team who are playing with Australia in World T20 semis?
Let us create our own national identity. Let us make our hockey players proud by encouraing them, by making our heroes. Forget the lazy man's game.

You are right - its boring in its 5 day format. However, not anymore with 20-20. However, it has attained that 'boring' status and, therefore, other countries aren't interested.

Thankfully, because of this, we are among the best 10 countries in this game. Imagine if the rest of Europe had caught on to cricket (just the way the did with field hockey), we would have been pushed out.

Irfan Pathan and other Discraded Players--not required
by LG on May 13, 2010 03:37 PM  | Hide replies

Just because he is not part of losers playing in T20 world does not mean he should be the automatic choice.

are we looking for quick fix? Just because some people think he is better than Jadeja, does he deserve the place in the team.

Is it a good idea-replacing a failed cricketer with another failed cricketer? What don't we look for talented young fast bowlers?

For examples; Umesh Yadav, Abu Nicham.

Obsession with discarded players like Irfan, Uttapa, Sreeshant is beyond my understanding?

Do you people--fans-things that there is dearth of talented young upcoming cricketers in India.

Please stop voicing for discarded players.

IPL is responsible
--not because it could have resulted in physical exertion
--but because it created greedy cricketer like Dhobi, Jadeja who do not care about country or losing an ICC tournaments.

The tired mind & body can only produce a jaded performance which is what team india delivered. The team members were playing for 45 days under extreme heat to increase their bank balances without ever bothered about the loss of credibility.Public has got what it deserve to promote tamash called IPL where all rules are flouted to make medicreds look like champions. The sixer hitting Pathan, gambhir & Raina were made to look like novice in ground as per norms & showed their lack of skills
