yes we need more IIT's, as in comparison to the population density existing no of IIT is not enough. If decision taken by the govt. works and they converts some NIT's to IIT which are having equivalent fascilities like IIT's then the standard of education can be increased.
What is there is enough,we do not need anymore of this special class of engineers. The numbers coming out are more meant to leave India for greener pastures. These engineers to be always set their eyes on foreign settings the day they set foot into a IIT campus. This mindset among the youth has to be put a stop too if India needs to get the best of talent which go to service some othernation for greenbacks .The people of India need to stop funding this nonsense and start looking at the vast numbers that study at better institutes and are prepared to serve the nation.Lets debunk these hypocrites and the crony westerners.
In my opinion , a brief increase in number of IIT collesges, may not only increase india's technological development, but may also provide worthy students to utilize their talent to full. But a large increase would only lead to downfall of quality of education provided. Furthermore, the increment in the number of colleges should not be accompanied with in an increase in reserved seats, only then will it prove to be helpful in true sense
Its amazing how easy we find it to lament the limited number of seats in the IITs and then turn around and critizie the government for creating more IITs. The quality of the human capital dictates the quality of a nation's growth. Already our national spending in the education sector is less than 2% (comapred to 12-15% of the southeast asian countries).
We need more IITs, more IIMs, more schools and colleges of international repute. Not less of them.
Dear Readers, This is a very delicate issue, and has pros and cons. IIT'ns are always thought to be exclusive. Now the difference between the other institutions and IIT is the quality of education which is provided only to the "select" group of people who pass the qualifying examination.
I have taken the IIT JEE examination, and one thing is for sure, the result is not based on luck, which would rule out all our qualms about students who are below average getting into the IIT. So my suggestion, would be to increase the number of IIT's,(after all i would like to see every institution in India to be an IIT and every student to be an IIT'an) but maintain the integrity of the education, and most importantly quality of education. So if the IIT JEE entrance examination is either of the same or increased toughness I would be more than happy to see future IIT's in INDIA. goodluck to you all, with regards, srinivas
More cooks spoil the dish. Same way, more IITs results in the reduction of the quality of the students getting in to them. If IITs are to be established, govt. should select key places (In Andhra Pradesh, which has a good place in +2 and engg. education, there is no IIT yet now) and establish them.
the theory of economics clearly says that more the quantity less is the effective quality. if at all the indian govt decides to go for more iits it must set standards before they convert the nits to iit otherwise the case will be same as that of roorkee, guwahati.Roorkee which was coverted to iit in 2001 is far behind in consideration with the other iits the other five iits. i hope that the govt looks at improving the standards of the newly formed iits than going for extra ones.
