To quote ex-IITM director words, IITs are islands. We don't mix with the outside worls and we will not allow outsiders to mix with us. IIT currciculum is of international standards meeting up with research requirement more than the industry requirement. IITs never compromise on diluting their standards come what may. Increasing more IIT's would mean dilution of standards in entrance examination to invite more people to join IITs which works against the motive of having IITs in the first place. Cut the crap. Dont do that
Yes. Badly India needs more educational institutions. But the institution what we have are not upto the expectations of the common man. This needs correction from the educationalists point of view. The doors should be open for all without any reservations. One pointer is, the Government should not spend more on these but ask the old, established IITs to generate atleast 50% of their income from various sources. This is possible with the track records they have and could well be done by investing in the technologies developed by them over years.
This sounds impressive , considering the Population of educated young citizens in our country we should ideally have atleast 1 IIT in every state , The only caution is that Govt must ensure that quality of every IIT is as per existing standards.
No really. The IITs happen to be the ultimate goal for any engineer in the making. Why convert RECs into IITs and ruin this? The IITs were, are and always should be exclusive only for the best brains of India.
This is completely unbeleivable-- now IIT has become no more than a commercializable brand to Indian politicians...Being an ex-IITian, I am a strong beleiver that IIT is what it is because of the students & not the professors. The world-class acheivements of IITians are not because of the great quality of faculty or facilities that they get during their undergrad--- it is because of the characteristics of the students who get through JEE. More IITs would simply mean a dilution of quality & even bigger degradation of faculty & research. Even now, how many faculty members at IITs are themselves IIT-undergrads followed by a top-level PhD ?? For that matter, IIT should not even take in students from foreign countries who come in without JEE-- is their money worth the brand that you are selling ? These students just buy the IIT-brand & get into Grad programs in United States on the basis of the IIT name, since many of the US universities cannot differentiate between students who come in through JEE & those who don't. Compare them to the toppers in other good engineering colleges who lose out to them many times, only because IIT is a brandname in the world.Stop all this, for heaven's sake
