For heaven's sake !!

This is completely unbeleivable-- now IIT has become no more than a commercializable brand to Indian politicians...Being an ex-IITian, I am a strong beleiver that IIT is what it is because of the students & not the professors. The world-class acheivements of IITians are not because of the great quality of faculty or facilities that they get during their undergrad--- it is because of the characteristics of the students who get through JEE. More IITs would simply mean a dilution of quality & even bigger degradation of faculty & research. Even now, how many faculty members at IITs are themselves IIT-undergrads followed by a top-level PhD ?? For that matter, IIT should not even take in students from foreign countries who come in without JEE-- is their money worth the brand that you are selling ? These students just buy the IIT-brand & get into Grad programs in United States on the basis of the IIT name, since many of the US universities cannot differentiate between students who come in through JEE & those who don't. Compare them to the toppers in other good engineering colleges who lose out to them many times, only because IIT is a brandname in the world.Stop all this, for heaven's sake
