social networking sites because it heavily makes my life after work unproductive, lazy , noncreative and sad..as far as work is concerned it sucks enuf out of us all to not be bothered about trivials.. i am not on any such networking sites...trying to get rid of rediff forums too hehe
If requd, companies can block these sites at the gateway of the corporate server. Many firms such as Infosys, Patni and Mastek have done this. Add the url to the black list and finish. We dont have to read such stupid articles.

What about mobile ? Now days we can access all this sites from mobile
First, this study is not new. A Boston based firm conducted a survey, reported a few months earlier, revealed decreases in productivity due to socializing on the internet during office hours. They reported a 1.5 % decrease in productivity. Reports of a research project from the University of Melbourne recently suggests that people who spend a reasonable amount of time on the internet for fun at work are actually more productive. They claim that it is a process of socializing which includes telephone conversations, texting, e:mail, and personal interaction. It can be beneficial if put to right use. One might get new ideas; exchange views; and possibly can make new vital contacts - which can enhance productivity. The workplace definition is also significantly altered in this age, with room for flexibility and relaxation which can be a good stress reliever. Organizations will not be seriously affected in not curbing this activity.
There is a basic flaw in the survey. It says 12.5% or 1 hour is lost which translates to 8 hour work day. When was the last time a working professional was able to do an 8 hour shift. Everyone is spending about 10 to 12 hours at work place which is completely ignored. The fact that there is no overtime but still people work beyond working hours is not considered in the so called productivity.
Also most of the firms have blocked the sites and it is not possible to access then anyway. We should not read too much into this survey.

me toooooo :)... and i just now pasted this link on my facebook.... used the same 'social networking' site to spread the word against it :)
yes,I agree with the do not surfing on duty timings,Wasted duty time near about 25% time in a day.I think this much wasted in office hours will affect on speed up workforce.
It will be usefull on non duty for friendship or anything.Mostly people are using on duty time only by neglecting their work due to that our export and energitic values are decreased.
this is absolutely wrong, we work from 9 to 8 which is more than 8 hrs. sometimes even this is bypassed and working hours exceed anything, even in weekends. First companies should make 8 hrs mandatory, nobody should be allowed to sit beyond that, even if sky fell off or world ended. then they can do these type of survey

true but those surveys which promote work life balance where the life's end is heavily underweighed and imbalanced will not be funded and backed by the companies no matter what..so u will never hear such voices...take a look at the european countries and their strict but very moderate working hours..ofcourse they are developed because life is an important factor influencing the quality and productivity at work
Networking with friends and people is not going to harm productivity per se. The obsession with which social networking activity is done is what causing people to become net-centric and stereo-typed, oblivious to other offline social activity that they could have indulged into. Leisure time is being increasingly occupied by unproductive activity like networking. It is akin to constant SMSing by youth. It is obsessive-impulsive activity that affects their productivity.
