Good team
by king on May 30, 2008 02:55 PM  Permalink

I can again see the selectors receiving a lot of flak for the team they have selected. But they have chosen the best possible team.

Some deserving candidates missed out but they couldn't ignore the team's performance in Australia.Beating Australia at home was a awesome achievement. That save many players in the current selection.

But Uthapa could have been dropped for Asnodkar or Dhawan or even Goswami.

Ojha has done much to come into the team.Instead Abhishek Nayar could come in.He's a good allrounder.

These are the only mistakes.Rest of them deserve to be there!

TEAM
by soumendra chatterjee on May 30, 2008 02:54 PM  Permalink

The team looks ok. But i felt Sikhar Dhawan would be in (might be in place of Robin Utthapa). Still a good team.

IPL has provided a lot of young players and hence Lot of competition. Dhawan and Badrinath would be in next time.

Team composition
by ayyasami krishnamoorthy on May 30, 2008 02:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

See the team composition

Only Batsmen:M S Dhoni , Gautam Gambhir , Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa [4]

Only Bowlers: S Sreesanth,Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha [4]

Genuine All rounders:Nil

Batsmen who can bowl:Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan [4]

Bowler who can bat:Irfan Pathan, Praveen Kumar,Piyush Chawla [3]

Not a bad one, because All the four batsmen will play, TWO bowlers will play and the other five will be from pseudo all rounders.

All the Best to the team.

(What about Badrinath, Abhishek Nayyar, Asnodkar, Shikar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, L.Balaji, Kaif, L R Shukla ..........)

This is a reply to krishnendu mukherjee who wrote...

Well Dhoni manupulated well. They will play against Asian teams who are not as strong as compared to the others. So team dhoni can win straight and create a statement that they can win without class players. But interesting will be if they lose to win the tournaments.

=======================================

As if Ganguly has won matches against Australia. LOL that pathetic batsmen in 35 matches scored 774 runs with a single 100, and averages 23.45 against Australia, the world champions.

As if your gr8 Ganguly was performing against the worlds best, LOL.... No Knowledge of Cricket you have.

hehehehehe thank you for gving so much importance to my comment, it seems it is worth discussing. how much cricket do u understand, states your comment. Firstly you have acute understnding problem. Indian team under ganguly played comparably much better against every team (please check stats again). Secondly I was not refering to ganguly or dhonis cricketing abilities. Ganguly Is far far better player than dhoni, and i am sure u will agree that too. My quest was to prove that this team selction might be a possible manipulation by dhoni. It could be as u can see dhoni after being captain has shown an effort of eliminating seniors on whatever basis. He conquered saurav and dravid but still the Indian GOD OF Cricket is still standing and at the moment out of injury. If you think that my comment in some way speaks for ganguly, then I must say, how many cricketers you will find, who is or was a great fighter like the bengal cricketer. I dont want u to stress your cricketing sense as there is nothing like exists. but please ask other and read some articles by past great cricketers you will understnd why.

This in reply to Sameer K.

I would like to make Sameer abreast that Ganguly is the most successfull captain ever for india.....and if he is to talk of the statistics, then i would like to inform that in the last one year,Ganguly has scored the maximum runs among his contemporaries.anyway, his awesome strike rate and the number of hundreds scored is not just a matter of fact but also a burning pointer to his capability as not only a batsman, but also as a bowler.

His recent performance in the IPL deserves him a place in the current team. And when none of the senior pro's are in the team he could have lend a fantastic balance with the ocean full of experience that he has of international cricket.

By playing 350 odis and scoring 10K runs is not a grt achievement I personally feel, that too bulk of the scoring on subcontinent pitches.

Plz don't argue...all players from india, pak, srilanka, bangladesh r mostly playing on sub-continental pitches...but did all of them score 10k runs? how many could last 350 odis? give credit where it is due...saurav was not a great fielder when he was at his peak...but even today he makes up for that through batting and utility bowling...performance should be the key and not the age!!!

Hi,
A single person does not win matches... Why are you checking just against Australia??? Please check his records against South Africa as well.... With an average of 50.50, 8 fifties and 3 hundreds, he has scored 1313 in 29 matches.... That is good.... Has Tendulkar scored all his centuries against Australia/South Africa?? Boss everyone scores against weak opponents...... When Ganguly hit three centuries in WC 2003, the teams were poor but no one else scored... Also Kenya reached Semifinals.... Why would you call them a poor team when bigger giants themselves could not reach the semifinals... It was the fourth best team then... (In the tournament) and he hit 2 centuries against them???

The basic thing is that you do not like Ganguly as I do not like Tendulkar... The reason is simple... He got too much attention than Tendulkar during 1999-2001 (he hit most of his centuries in these years) and that's why people who worship Tendulkar (even if he is not consistent as in last 2-3 years) cannot bear Ganguly......

Cheers
Himanshu Joshi

Shikhar Dhawan
by sinu varghese on May 30, 2008 02:45 PM  Permalink

Why is Shikhar Dhawan not offered a place in the team ?? He played much better innings than Suresh Raina !! Raina was never consistent !! But Shikhar was more consistent and much matured than Raina !!! This is not the first instance for Dhawan rejected by the selectors !! This wont do anything good to an emerging player !!! Raina was given umpteen chances and was a big time flop !! Give chances for people who are ready to give their 100%, and Dhawan is ready for that challenge !! He is a great player !!!
