India in sports
by Anurodh Dayal on Oct 10, 2014 12:11 PM

With second largest population we are far behind winning the sport medal. Business class can open games academy and trained the person at the age of 6 years. The expenses on the academy will be expenditure part and he does not pay any tax. Same time he is giving training new person in each field. I am sure we can win largest number of gold medals. Only determination has to be there.

Sarita Devi's Plight

My heart goes out to this brave girl who is extremely passionate about her boxing. After toiling for years together and practicing so hard, she could reach this stage. But, as usual, our officials let her down which is unpardonable by any standards. Better luck next time. Anil Chandela

India's sad performance
by Nakuleswaran Navaratnam on Oct 01, 2014 01:51 PM

India's poor performance in athletics is largely due to failure to find potential performers and poor and disinterested fascilities provided at school level for physical skill developement. Examples are many-- In utranchal the mule owners simple treck along with the passengers on their mules, up and down to Kedarinath temple as many times as they could get passengers. can't they be good performers in track and field events? You have sports and cultural meet in schools once in an year. Do we discover good performers and give them consistant training? -- very rarely -- mostly we spot them for easy selection for the following year event.

Step in
by Jugal Ahuja on Oct 01, 2014 01:00 PM

I think the PM should step in to bring "Achhe Din" in Indian sports, because he can motivate the officials & sports persons to put & give their best.

Very little facility at grassroot level
by Tiger on Oct 01, 2014 12:25 PM

We hardly have enough grounds and qualified coaches to identify and nurture talent at grassroot level. We have relatively good facility at top level, but the grassroot level is largely ignored.

WE INDIANS CANNOT PERFORM BETTER AT INTERNATIONAL SPORTS
by suchet bal on Oct 01, 2014 12:15 PM  | Hide replies

because we believe in Vegetarianism. All the 200 or more countries participating in the International Sports except India do not follow Vegetarianism. If we take the example of Formula 1 Motor Car Racing where we use petrol which is a byproduct of living organisms which died millions of years ago and their bodies brokedown into petroleum products from which we make petrol which fuels the car engines and win the Car races. But if we use Vegetable oil to run these cars I wonder if the car will even run. If we argue that some of our veg sports persons won Gold medals it could be because of heavy consumption of Ghee (clarified butter) and milk as consumed by wrestlers which are also animal products and not a plant product. Cricket is an exception as it is a sport of skill more than strength unlike most other olympic sports.

Not necessarily...
Sushil kumar our olympic wrestling medallist is a vegetarian. There are enough vegetarian protein sources.
The actual reason is SPORT in india is just a HOBBY and not a CAREER OPTION for many. We want to study (even if we are dumb) , get "A degree" and have a job cos at the end of the day we have to fend for ourselves. We dont beleive that sport can support us.
Once ppl see sport as career (take best example of cricket) many ppl will take to sport and we will have enuf bench strength.
Veg/Nonveg debate makes no sense here.
BTW Indians consume non veg in very little quantities which is just for TASTE

You have hit the nail on head. Lack of protein in the diet also hampers performance. Science has proved that animal protein is first class protein because it contains all essential amino acids for building and repairing muscles. Animal protein also includes milk, curd, whey protein, paneer etc which many vegetarians don't consume. Indian athletes who consume whey protein supplements or milk and milk products can improve their performance significantly.Just having almonds and vegetables will not serve any purpose. Those who are non vegetarains have many options and if they work hard can excel in sports which require stamina, power, strength etc. But it no way means a vegetarian cannot. the only thing is they have to consume milk or milk products which I mentioned earlier.

Quality of custodians of sports are worst in the world
by M on Oct 01, 2014 12:03 PM

Quality of custodians of sports are worst in the world when it comes to India;
Sportsmen and women lack nothing but quality people to manage their job and future;

The custodians quality are worse because the nation is managed by all such guys who are either worse or equally bad in quality to such people only;
