Quality of custodians of sports are worst in the world
by M on Oct 01, 2014 12:03 PM

Quality of custodians of sports are worst in the world when it comes to India;
Sportsmen and women lack nothing but quality people to manage their job and future;

The custodians quality are worse because the nation is managed by all such guys who are either worse or equally bad in quality to such people only;

indians usually lacks stamina to be good in sports
by attacker on Oct 01, 2014 11:45 AM  | Hide replies

indians are failing in sports because it needs stamina, power, speed, and agility. we play cricket as it not require much stamina or power as require in football or tennis type game. another reason for not doing good in sports is because we are afraid of competition. we play cricket because we are afraid to challenge China, America, Russia type strong sporting nations and want to compete with countries like pakistan, bangladesh, sri-lanka those are zero in sports..

And for stamina, power, speed and agility one requires nutrition. I doubt whether Indian athletes are excellent at nutrition. The Sports Ministry has to allocate a handsome budget for nutrition. Eating chappati and vada pav or other junk is not nutrition.

I have observed that even in local swimming competition swimmers eat vada pav.The sports ministry should rope in sports nutrition experts to handle this issue. This will also make the profession of sports nutrition in demand in the country.

A nation with billion of population what stamina are you talking about. We should use our stamina in right areas.

Asian countries like China, Japan what additional stamina they have. Provide sophisticated infrastracture for the players to get trained, more importantly govt should encourage the talents by providing sufficient monetary so that they are motivated and take care of their family. In India, only education has only value, thats how parents view(i.e every one has to become doctors and engineers) anything else is no scope. If parents have this mind set, its very difficult.

You are not aware about the role of sports nutrition. Countries like China and Japan have invested not only in infrastructure, training but also in nutrition. Remember you are what you eat. Not all billion people are talented or good at sports. I am talking of people who are good at sports and are talented but they fail because of various reasons such as lack of govt support, sponsors, nutrition, poor facilities etc. Countries like US. UK, China, Korea etc are earning medals because they have a team of professionals who are individually taking care of athletes in all departments.

Cricketers get a lot of money, fame, prestige, exposure
by brian crasto on Oct 01, 2014 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

How many people can remember sportperson other than crciketers. Today cricket is telecast almost everyday for hours together on different channels. With the amount of money, endorsement fame almost all youngsters chose cricket neglecting the other sports. However I feel the other sportsperson have done pretty well over the years inspite of low payment, neglect by the sport authorities, etc. I always felt that they represent the true colors of India and they are patriotic in spite of all constraints. rather than cricket. How many know that BCCI is a private body, and actually it can be said that cricket is played for money and not for patriotism.

There has been an overkill of cricket.. Ban club cricket, IPL, ongoing CLT and so on.. Only international, country vs country cricket should be encouraged..

As also, Infrastructure facilities for other games must be improved along with best coaching facilities..

There is now considerable interest in Tennis, Hockey, Badminton. Dynamic individuals like Saina Nehwal, Sania mirza, Leander Paes, Vishy Anand, The Indian hockey team spur interest in young people.

All these things require money. Therefore corporate sponsorship in various games should be solicited and encouraged. A slew of measures need to be taken and sports ministry should have Cabinet status and budgetary allocation.

we should as well that understand results do not come overnight. people would still follow cricket as there is a lot of excitement and you can't force anything in a democracy...

in India nobody will take sports as profession barring cricket
by Hariharan Nair on Oct 01, 2014 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

in India, how you expect people to take sports as profession (except cricket)? We hear some of the persons participated in Asian Games, by selling their mother's ornaments and land etc. In this way how you expect the country to progress in sports? Government has lot of money for other things, but not for sports. For such a pathetic performance, whether we need a sports Ministry? A small Board or Association could do far better. All the money allocated for sports eaten up by officials in Ministry. Look at China, how they progressed. The work has to begin from primary school level. Unless it is done, don't expect to make progress. We will remain in same way for ever.

Sports can not become a profession until it has entertainment value.

To make people interested to see on regular basis, it should add entertainment value like IPL, Wrestling and Boxing tournaments do. Corporate sponsor comes if the sports is able to pull large mass of people.

Sports is about health so appropriate place for this is to integrate it with education system.

You are right. Till there is a minister in charge he must be called MEANister. And, incidently, the bureaucracy in charge should be
termed bureaucRATS

BASE-TURDS!

well said.

our ministers and bureaucrats are not skilled about tricks of the trade and to learn, it takes hard work (applicable to all ministries). In the absence suitable audit and monitoring they tend to become aramkhore and haramkhore and they are always looking to make easy money and easiest way is embezzling money or taking bribes.

Otherwise, why would Mr. Modi has to keep telling their MP, Minister, Secretary, bureaucrats to do the job honestly.
