Nadal Vs Federer!!
by manoj jain on Nov 29, 2014 11:24 AM  | Hide replies

When, time and again Nadal`s name comes cropping up to show Federer is greater,it simply shows that Nadal is a bigger champ....GOAT does not need comparisions....Both are champs in their own rights and let us not belittle them....also if u take humility into consideration,,Nadal`s way superior..

Its this habit of the FedUp fans to belittle Nadal ,abuse his fans, mock his injuries, and become an overall nuisance which leads to these boards becoming a place of abuse. Its this "Federer is the greatest, period!!" attitude coupled with the abuse which leads to friction. It might be their opinion but you should respect the fact that someone else has a different opinion. Anyway,as you sow,so shall you reap.

We need to ignore that Anuraug (Nadal fan). He only believes what he thinks is right. He will start using many clone ids and try to be funny. There is no point in arguing with him.

But I'm happy that the majority of the fans consider Fed as GOAT and also now an article from a leading sports journalist, who says debate ends for the time being in favor of Roger Federer.

Its funny how stats are shown..The same federer has a losing record against novak as well.. and as per writer clay is not a surface to be considered it seems...remember how nadal made federer cry at 2009 australian open...nadal has beaten fed in all the slams...

Fed vs Djoko h2h is 19-17...
This year Fed leads him 3-2. Just imagine, Fed has achieved it at 32/33 yrs age.. no longer in his prime.
Yes Fed did cry at 2009 AO, but then he has also cried when he has also won GS. It just shows his passion for the game.

Nadal has beaten Fed in all the slams.. then why has he been #1 for just 141 weeks.. whereas Fed has been #1 for 302 weeks. You have to look at the bigger picture.

If you find the stats are shown are funny, then why don't you put forth your stats and argument, if you think you are more knowledgeable than the author of this article.

Head to Head
by Unmai Vilambi on Nov 25, 2014 11:42 PM  | Hide replies

The factor that weighs heavy in the minds of Nadal supporters in the GOAT debate, is his H2H numbers against Federer.

It does count, at the first level. But if you look at it deeper, Nadal has lost to many lower ranked players several times, that Federer had never lost to. During the times when Roger was losing only to Nadal, Nadal was losing to every Tom, Dave and Harry.

Also, initially, Novak and Murray had a better record against Roger in the best of 3 sets format. Still, those two guys are no where in contention for the GOAT debate.

So, the H2H numbers are only indicative of match-up of their individual games.

For accrediting the GOAT title, just the way we don't expect Federer to have won every single tournament he played, we should also NOT consider him to have a positive H2H record against every opponent.

Hence, in my opinion, Roger is the GOAT, and will be hard for anybody to beat. But, I will never say never.

Among top four, Novak, Nadal, Roger and Andy...Rafa has H2H advantage on the other three...What do you think on that?

I have a list of Tom, Dave and Harry who beat Roger :)

Rafa has h2h adv. against the other three.... then why is he just #1 for only 141..? The proof of the pudding is in the eating, similarly the proof of the greatness is in the ranking.

Djoko trails Nadal in h2h by just 4, so when he betters the h2h will be become the greatest just by that stats.. I dont think so. He has lost to more Tom, Dave and Harry than Fed and just wait and see Nadal will start to lose more matches, once he is out of prime soon.

Rafa has played his peak when Novak, Roger and Andy were in their peak...That was not the case with Roger....This is one reason that Novak / Rafa will not go 300 weeks as No 1....Simple

Fed is 5 to 6 yrs senior to the other Big 3... its not his fault that they didn't peak when he was in his prime, when he made the opposition look very weak.. that was Fed's greatness... If Rafa is so great, then why not he also make the opposition look very weak and continue to be #1 for most weeks... Simple

Federer didn't need to make the opposition look weak...they were indeed weak!
Only someone who's intellect is weak, would compare Hewitt, Safin, Rios ,Nalbandian, Roddick, Gonzalez etc with the likes of Nadal, Novak and Murray....if FedUp is so great, why not he makes Nadal and Nole look weak and win most masters titles...simple.

@Anuraug (Nadal fan)....

Its Federer who is the present GOAT, whether he/Nadal/Djoko are still active or not doesn't matter. The debate ends for the time being. For Nadal to be considered the GOAT, he needs to beat Fed's mark of 17 GS, 302 weeks #1, 6 world tour titles, etc. Atleast let him beat the mark of 17 GS and win atleast one World tour finals.

Can you lay claim stating Nadal is the GOAT at present??? If so, what are your arguments for that? Can't wait for them to retire. Fed may even play upto 40 like Connors. Later someone else candidate for the GOAT will play and you will then ask to keep the debate open until he also retires????

Definitely you can keep denying that Fed is the GOAT. There is a saying, "You can wake up a person who is sleeping, but you can't wake up a person who is pretending to sleep".
You are pretending to sleep, by saying the debate goes on and not acknowledging the GOAT status of Fed. Waking you up to the reality will be impossible. You have already denied the Rediff poll and now a leading sports journalists write up. Its what the majority say matters, don't you think so???

No, just because you say so it doesn't mean the debate ends. The debate wont end even if Nadal eventually overtakes Federer's tally.
Who gave you the authority to decide what the criteria are?Now I say that for Federer to be considered the GOAT he needs to beat Nadal's Masters tally, 8 Monte Carlo titles,Oly,pic Singles gold, etc.At least let him overtake the masters titles tally and win Monte Carlo once.
I agree with your statement about waking a sleeping person.. you are the one who is pretending to be asleep. Waking you upto the reality will be impossible. Also, this is not an election where majority opinion counts...plus of course the fact that a few pin heads here support you with cloned usernames doesn't mean you have a majority either.

Roger is the GOAT. For now, for sure. let's not be sure about the 'forever' part.

Because, not even a decade ago, nobody thought that any player will be able to better Sampras's record of 14 majors. Roger surpassed it with ease, even when Sampras is still health to make a comeback.

As a saying in Tamil goes...For every kiladi, there is another kiladi on earth.

by Anuraug Rathor on Nov 25, 2014 05:53 PM  | Hide replies

Bikash Mohapatra? Whats his claim to fame, and who gives him any right to close any debate?
Not long ago the Federer fans were claiming that Davis Cup is a team event and shouldnt count in an individual game. Then why turn around and claim the debate has ended, just because Federer gate crashed Wawrinkas party to complete his cv,so to say.
The GOAT debate is here much to stay.Maybe if Federer wins an Olympuc Gold and ends his career higher than Nadal on slam count one can say he clinched it.If both of them retire today on the spot, the debate remains open.
