Bikash Mohapatra? Whats his claim to fame, and who gives him any right to close any debate? Not long ago the Federer fans were claiming that Davis Cup is a team event and shouldnt count in an individual game. Then why turn around and claim the debate has ended, just because Federer gate crashed Wawrinkas party to complete his cv,so to say. The GOAT debate is here much to stay.Maybe if Federer wins an Olympuc Gold and ends his career higher than Nadal on slam count one can say he clinched it.If both of them retire today on the spot, the debate remains open.

"ends his career higher than Nadal on slam count" isnt he not currently? Olympic medal he got a silver and gold... You need something to debate, so you bring that H2H and singles gold medal..
Re: Re: says who??
by Anuraug Rathor on Nov 25, 2014 09:10 PM
Yes he is now, dork. But theres no guarantee he will be at the end of his career. All we can do now is guess. So as long as both players are active, the debate goes on.

Rafa is obviously end of career, let us wait season by season first 2015 let us wait and see if he bounces back.
It a well written article. The author has covered all the vital stats also taking into consideration the other tennis greats from 1968 (open era) onwards. This GOAT debate started mainly after Federer started achieving everything under the sky and overtook Pete's record of 14 GS titles. Federer is undoubtedly the GOAT and it was also recently voted so by the rediff poll also.
The only plus going for Nadal is that he has a better H2H record against Federer. But, that alone doesn't attribute to greatness. Looking at the overall accomplishments, Federer surely leads his nearest rival Nadal. Maybe once Nadal betters Federer's mark of 17 GS titles and wins a ATP WTF tile he can set claim for the GOAT status.
Similarly, Djokovic can also be considered for the GOAT debate once he overtakes Federer's record. Its Federer who has set the bench mark for others to achieve. This itself tells who is the GOAT. Federer has long been considered the GOAT and he continues to be so.

Agreed totally, many talk about H2H against Nadal. But see there Fed has played against Rafa's favorable surface... You can see now, people have one less thing to compare Davis cup, Rafa fanatics will say Olympic gold medal in singles and H2H, both not there hence Fed is not GOAT...

FedUp fanatics are aleays looking for unbalanced and warped analyses written by biased pseudo expert s like Mohapatra. They know that Fedup doesnt stand up to a direct comparison thats evident. It is jot Nadals fault that Federer doesnt measure up on clay. Its not Nadals fault that Federer hasnt beaten him at any slam since 2007.The list goes on.
Re: Re: Re: Roger Federer is the greatest of all-time
by siva kumar on Nov 25, 2014 09:32 PM
Unbalanced? Unbalanced is Rafa - Clay is nothing... No year end championship, Fed has won 6 times... No point in bringing Rafa in GOAT debate if you can win against the top 8 in year end championship... Your comparison as told before will be just H2H, that doesnt make Rafa any stronger... But overall its Federer...

I will accept that if you show me your official position/designation to make that statement, otherwise its just your opinion which has no importance at all, miketard.

You are the one who seem to be confused and not the author... who has put forward all the main facts talked about in the GOAT debate in a precise manner.

Anurag Bastor stfu... Pant puller now interested playing Poker so don't bring him in GOAT debate...
The writer himself says that Nadal has beaten Federer 15 times on clay in the last 10 years but says federer is the GOAt. If he is so best, then why he is not able to beat nadal on clay. GOAT means greatest player of all time, then Federer should have been best on clay also. Meanwhile, Nadal has always seen just as a clay court player but he has won French open and Wimbledon back to back two times. And one thing is for sure- if injuries has not plagued Nadal's career, he would have been stting at the top in terms of no of grand slams won. This article just looks like to be written just for writing and no thought was given. I am sure if Nadal tomorrow wins 2-3 more grand slams, then the same writer will be saying O wow, Nadal is the GOAT..!
Re: Hilarious..
by Michael on Nov 25, 2014 02:55 PM
No one player can be the greatest in all the departments of a game.... such a player is yet to be born.... but take the quote from Connors... "In an era of specialists, you're either a clay court specialist, a grass court specialist, or a hard court specialist...or you're Roger Federer!”
Re: Hilarious..
by Soumya Kundu on Nov 25, 2014 12:45 PM
There is no place for "Ifs" and "Buts" in sport. If you are looking for a GOAT, fitness and longevity is also a factor. Nadal has been injuring himself all through his career. Federer is totally fit even at the age of 33. Nadal wont be around by the time he is 33.
Re: Re: Hilarious..
by siva kumar on Nov 25, 2014 06:16 PM
100% agreed, Soumya. If we put if's and but's. Even I can say if Rafa was not there then Federer would have 5 French and also completed the golden masters, getting all the 1000 master series. People need something to debate, hence Rafa's gold medal and H2H are there.. People can bark whatsoever... But Roger is GOAT...
Re: Re: Re: Hilarious..
by Anuraug Rathor on Nov 26, 2014 10:45 PM
FedUp fans can bark whatever they want, but there are no ifs an buts.. Roger is NOT GOAT.
Re: it goes to Warwinka
by siva kumar on Nov 25, 2014 06:21 PM
Of course, but Davis cup meant more for Federer whose resume didnt have it so far. Check out the pics, even Fed knows Stan has made this possible and hence he put him in the center and credited him.
Re: it goes to Warwinka
by Anuraug Rathor on Nov 26, 2014 10:47 PM
Yes,thats correct..all these years FedUp ignored country chasing his personal career...but now he saw an opportunity to complete his CV and jumped in to gate crash Wawrinka's party, all in the name of 'national service'...how convenient.
"Nadal has 16 titles on the hard court and three on grass. And even the most staunchest of his admirers will admit if they had not slowed down the other surfaces, the Spaniard would have struggled to win even that". This one line shows how biased the article is. Nothing more to say
Re: What a ridiculous piece
by Michael on Nov 25, 2014 02:43 PM
Nadal is the king of clay but Federer is the king of grass and hard courts. So its Federer who has dominated in the majority of the court surfaces.
Re: Re: What a ridiculous piece
by its manish on Nov 25, 2014 11:22 AM
The argument is ridiculous. So what article is saying that organizers slowed down surfaces only for Nadal. This is bool-cheet. Primary reason for changing surfaces to make game more interesting for spectators, to increase rallies rather than letting players fire boom boom aces and stuff. This was absolutely necessary with increase in racket speed these days. People always like watching the big 4 more often than the big servers like Karlovic, Raonic, etc.
Re: Its Pete Sampras for me
by Undie Tiwari on Nov 25, 2014 10:21 AM
By the same logic, Nadal had no quality opponents on clay and that's why he won the French 9 times so far. So the titles do not count, if it does not count for Federer.
Re: Re: Its Pete Sampras for me
by siva kumar on Nov 25, 2014 06:25 PM
Well said Undie Tiwari... People who talk about this weaker era logic completely makes no sense.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Its Pete Sampras for me
by siva kumar on Nov 25, 2014 09:34 PM
Nadal played in a weaker era in clay and hence won 9 French... You senseless dork anurag bastor...
