like ur chendulkar has coached a million kids ?
when a sportsperson is actively playing, his first priority is winning .. I'm sure he will definitely render his services to youth sports unlike the selfish cricketers

Chess exists in india because of Anand!! Everything about indian chess came because of Anand. Learn something before you write! You cant coach children while you are still a world champion. That happens after you retire. Did you see the 100 games he played with indian children (simultaneously) at the Math olympiad last year? One kid even won over anand. Don't talk non-sense if you don't know anything

It is absolutely fantastic. He is a real hero. It is true that two different games and success of players can not be and should not be compared. But still this is beyond doubts the greatest achievement. Hats off to Vishy. He should be idol of Indian youth. The patience, hard work, intelligence, concentration and commitment to achieve goal are the qualities that anand possesses and each young aspiring student can learn a lot from him. Congratulations Anand. Keep it up. We all Indians are proud of you.

If you look at his interview after the match,it is proved that he is true champion. He was honest and humble in his interview but on the othr hand Gelfand was arrogant and not honest.Chess is played through the world and cricket is in just 8/10 countries representing the "Gulaams" of British.

The reality is that there is more money and media attention in field games than in board games.

The term "Ghulams" doesn't really make sense in this context.

ravi. you are a mediocreDimWit. there is no comparison. cricket is played by only 12 countries in the world. it was invented by british to burn their empty sundays. these cricketers dont have the strength to play intensive games like basketball, football or hockey. and trousers are good because they help hide you thin dark and hairy legs.

Thanks for enlightening me. I thought Chess was played only by two individuals in a closed room and cricket is played in a packed stadium with a lot of excitement and support from crowd.

And to start with, I never mentioned about "Ghulaams", britishers, dark and hairy legs in any of my comments above.

Maybe its just your inferirity complex that is showing up in your comments here. Can't help it!

Ravi - Anand is an extremely humble person. The championship that Anand holds is extraordinarily prestigious and only a handful individuals could achieve it - names like Capablanca, Fischer, Karpov and Kasparov. Dont compare this with cricket - the level of competition is much higher.

Our question is kids should take on other sports such as chess apart from only cricket.

Lastly, solitary chess games can be played between groups of people - like Kasparov vs world was hosted by chessgames, where moves were decided based on polls. Some chess games are also there between cities - like a single game between city of London vs city of Paris.

If you think so, they you are ignorant of Chess Game. Look at the registered Chess players in india. We have around 10000 live players and in chennai alone we have 25 big competition for Rated players. These 10000 registered players always say they want to be Anand, Kasparov, carlsen, karpov, Fischer,Capablanca,Lasker etc. So, if you don't know about game just keep off

It is good that Chennai is so active in chess, but very little has been done by the government and media to promote chess. The Indian national championship is quite strong and definitely very prestigious, yet when it is going on the only way I know about it is chessgames which is an internationalWebsite. There is no reason to believe govt puts any additional effort than other sport - so maybe it is fair. Ravi says that all youngsters think of Sachin not Anand - this is quite shameful. Chess should be promoted as a part of our heritage since it is very much an Indian game, as we haplessly watch BoriaMajumdar write book after book on cricket calling it an Indian game.

Pathetic coverage by media
by Raja on May 31, 2012 10:25 AM  | Hide replies

The real hero in sport gets the least coverage and all the talk in nominating sachin for bharat ratna and makinghim rajyasabha mp shows that we still dont treat all in par and always are biased. Sachin is still making ppl wait for taking in oath as mp in rajya sabha and this shows the importance that he gives for this mp seat and still these fellows wait for him to take oath.I wonder what he is going to do in rajya sabha if he shows this kind of an attitude . Comparing him anand deserves much more we should treat him fair even if not on par with the cricketers

Absolutely irresponsible attitude of Media. The same on the part of Indian people too. No one cries for awarding "Bharatratna" to this beautiful sportsman Vishwanathan Anand, the proud of India. 180 countries play Chase, whereas only 16 countries play cricket. Jago India, Jago.

see, you comment shows you are envy about others get big. yes chess players are not getting name but you know what amount Anand got for winning? so, let we don't envy about other. we have a game which we can't compare to Boxing,Cricket, football as it need intelligent people to be a spectator and need a patience to watch with interest for minimu of 4 to 7 hours where a single move will take sometime 30 mins? if cricket player take such time to bowl a ball or batsman take to bat, then people will not their in stadium for cricket or football. so, let we understand the nature of game and the people who like it. Be a unbiased and don't envy about other. We will get our share of honour and money.

Jai - I think you are talking out of your mind. Everybody knows that each sport is different and no need to compare one with other interms of how they are played. But look at the achievements. Here is an individual who put India on world map for so long and so consistently... and mind you single handedly. And he is all of 42 years. Dont you think it is an achievement worth a Bharat Ratna? I think winning a world chess championship is equal to scoring 500 centuries because the competition is so intense and only mind power is required which is available for a lot many than the sports that requires physical strength.

There is a very thin line between pride and arrogance.
