Glad he won. The third rapid game was drawn but Gelfand could have won it. Anand miscalculated and exchanged minor pieces in a drawish rook endgame. But then Gelfand under serious time trouble made a bad move with his rook which helped Anand neutralize the threat. Vishy's endgame skills with the rook are spectacular - three of the 4 rapid were rook endgames.

Chess is a game, but it does not in any way reduce ones achievements purely because it is strategy based (not luck based) and has a tremendous following world over with a lot of history.
No one can fool around in Chess. It can be considered an indoor sport in that respect.

Mahesh, it looks boring if you don't involve yourself. Any game for that matter is like that, just like cricket or football if you sit in a bar with friends who understand the game and can pass comments (even if its silly) u'll enjoy. I'm not saying chess games are watched like that and neither do i watch. But the point is one need to get involved and analyze the next 6-8 moves ahead after every move, that'll make it interesting. Try it, play the game u'll enjoy it.

cricket is a sluggish sports played mostly by weak and corrupt sporting nations like india, pakistan, bangladesh, sri-lanka... cricket is not a power sports like football or tennis thats why not included in olympics.

Sameer,
Chess is a mind game that involves lot of use of brain power. Its uncommon in most parts of india and south Indians(especially Chennai) are a jewel within India in the game.
However there are some exceptions like Surya S Ganguly (not sourav who is also brilliant in cricket and mind games).
Kudos to V Anand he's a legend and proud feather in Chennai's cap. Let the celebrations begin. Even Chennai super kings didnt win 3 IPL, our great V Anand won 3 world championship.
Many people do not understand the gravity of Vishy's feat.. a world champion five times over..an unknown guy named Bisla who slammed a few runs in one T20 cricket innings is a household name, but the modest Vishy who is a world champion many times over does not get even a bit of the adullation that such cricketer's get.. Vishy truly deserves the Bharat Ratna
