What was Nadal doing when Roger was winning ?
by Mahesh Kishore on Jan 30, 2012 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

People here are just after Roger....
One point mentioned is Roger won when no gud player was around ? Does it include Rafa also ? Rafa had won the first GS in 2005.. so from 2004 to 2011 there were 28 GS's.. out of which Roger won 15..!!! and Rafa won 9 (6 on clay..!!!). So what was this great Rafa doing in other 19 GS's ? He was defeated by many others ???? whereas Roger was defeating many others ??? Whats the reason you guys have ? Just a head to head count does not reflect the greatness ..!!!!

Lame Arguments....
by Loqe Loooqeee on Jan 30, 2012 03:47 PM

Dear All Tennis Fans, Please stop with the lame excuse of Fedex winning most of his titles over a weak and not so competitive era or players. To me a tennis player is a great player once he makes it to the ATP tour and becomes a pro. If you are going to compare someones greatness by the quality of competition he faces then 95% of the great players of all sports are not so great after all. To be able to win 16 Grand Slam Titles and various ATP masters and Finals against all types of players on all type of surfaces is sheer phenomenon and no one can take that away from Fedex. One more thing also, to have tennis fans talk about Fedex and compare him to their favorites who are at their mid twenties (Nole & Nadal) and he is 30 years old says a lot about him and his sheer greatness. People still talk about the greats of old times until now (Sampras, Agassi, Laver, Becker, Borg, etc..) even though their records have been broken long time ago because they gave us all what we always wanted as tennis fans, Entertainment, Entertainment, Entertainment... So lets just enjoy and not take away credits from any player past or present just because he is not your favorite...;o)

Roger............
by Ali M on Jan 30, 2012 03:00 PM  | Hide replies

Roger is not injured... he is fit.. but the problem for him is that he faces real challenge now.. in his prime time even he could not win against great players.. his competition were the likes of Nalbadian,Roddick,Marat Safin,he won his first GS defeating Mark Philippoussis( who is he??)he only defeated Pete in semi finals.. thats it.. he lost to Marat Safin at AO in the finals.. there were no real competition.. it took him 4 years to win a GS after making his debut.. Rafa defeated him on his debut itself.. so you call Roger Champion for defeating not so good players.. Rafa, DJ and Murray have more wins on them.. so the real competition is now.. last couple of years.. where he is not winning at all. he is not winning from the time he was 28th... that phase of Roger was without good players... So he his lucky.. in his prime time Rafa defeated Roger evrytime... so who is great now...?

Hello.
Rafa was defeated 2 times in a row in Wimbledon finals by Federer. Wat rafa defeated him on his debut. Speak sense.

Well well, Nadal seems to have an edge on Federer but DJ is have a sharp edge on Nadal now! And Federer used to dominate DJ all the time! Nadal's game is power game and DJ is matching him with his power game now. Federer still have that class in his game and that'll be interesting to see how far Nadal can go with his power game from here on!

Was it Tennis?
by aishwarya patil on Jan 30, 2012 09:31 AM  | Hide replies

For sheer physical effort, it might as well have been a World Heavyweight Boxing bout, with both players throwing punches and counter-punches with amazing speeds and neither willing to relent. Tennis 20 years back was clearly a different ball game. The physical nature of the game has put players like Roger Federer who depend upon finesse out of the race.
The modern game not only demands extreme physical fitness, it also demands total control of the mind. With defined limits to physical fitness, it is the mental toughness that decides the issue. The player to blink first must lose.
The Federer-Nadal encounter was a case in the point. Federer clearly had more skill, but he blinked first, and went for the lines when he should have been playing a waiting game. More often than not, he did not hit the lines. My mind goes back to a statement by the defeated finalist of 2007 US Open, when one Mr Novak Djokovic said," Federer is not Great, he is just lucky. He goes for the lines and hits them." Federer clearly has that tendency to go for the lines, and fitter players like Nadal and Djokovic can feast on him now.
Sadly, I have to predict that it is all over for Federer.

I doubt Miss Aishwariya if Djoko was such a fool to have said that.. lolzz...and as far as your tennis doubts are concerned, i suppose you can bury them deep under this earth, cause, if federer is not tennis after winnign 16 slams, a 285 weeks at No 1 and 70 atp career titles and innumerable finals, then WHat is tennis?, or to be precise.. go make your own version of tennis, upload it in your pc, and keep playing that.!!

Dear Anik,
So why Federer cannot win now... Nadal was playing then is still playing.. can you please check after making a debut in tennis, after how long did he win a grand slam.. and when he started winning how many better players were there to challenge him besides Rafa- who defeated him on debut itself.. Roger stopped winning because now all the top 5 players are very good and can defeat Federer.. His game is still the same.. only others have improved now.... thats Tennis.. When you win among the brave than you are called a great champion... Rafa Won all his grand slam by defeated the toughest player and so his Djoker...

@ Ali
yeah, at 30 his game is still the same! Dj and Nadal are under 26 what is considered the best age for tennis. He is stil making in to semi's and Finals. I'll like to after 4 years, how'll Nadal play his tennis

Novak Djokovic is class
by deshbhakt on Jan 30, 2012 04:58 AM  | Hide replies

Novak Djokovic was not in his groove in first set and made too many uncharacterstics errors unlike him. In second and third set Novak Djokovic virtually had Nadal scampering all over. In fourth set too Djokovic had the upper hand and looked to win till the rains came in and changed the tempo of game, which Nadal won in close tie break. Djokovic came back from break down to beat Nadal in 5th set. Given the fact that Novak Djokovic missed out on far too many break point chances, the scoreline could have been far different and the match would have been long over max by fourth set. Novak Djokovic is class.

The game was amazing last night.. given the point that Nadal service games are bad he still managed to break DJ more times. DJ was lucky yesterday as most of his return falling on the basline which he did not intend to.. Nadal had DJ on the final set had he put the ball inside the court. That was an easy chance he missed...game would have been over then.. but Kudos to both the players.. the match was great.. Power, resilience,Physical torture.. great... Rafa will win the Frech Open and Wimbeldon... Vamos...

Novak owns Nadal

Novak Djokovic owns Rafael Nadal and has his number, just as Nadal owns Federer and has his number and Federer owns Novak Djokovic's number. Tennis is fun.

you are right mate! But Nadal will be known for his wins on Clay as most of his GS have come from there! 6 at clay and 4 others! Fedex and DJ are better as they are doing equally well on all courts! Federer has played 5-6 finals at clay! how many Nadal has played on other courts?

How many have Roger Won with a equally good player... not many.. i guess 02..But Nadal has won all the grandslams in presence of Federer.. So the competition is now with everyone.. All are very good players.. Look when roger made his debut he could not win granslams because there were great players than and once they got retired, he started to win and the competition got uneven.. but than came the man.. Rafa.. who made him cry.. you know the result right... Both DJ and Roger has the advantage of their services.. and Rafa's Serves i dont have to tell you guys, but still he wins.. thats amazing... Roger will never win when there are challenges around...
