misleading title
by priyanka joshi on Aug 20, 2012 09:54 AM  | Hide replies

the article's title is really misleading, it gives an impression that the car was gifted by Sachin.
However the car was gifted by vice-president of Andhra Badminton Association Chamundeshwari Nath, and Sachin was only called to handover the keys.

If I would have been in the association, I would have gifted it myself! What connection does sachin has with that association or for that matter with badminton!!! - I guess the only reason he was called to give the keys was the make headlines!

Anyways in either case, this is sheer waste of money by the association! they should have instead put that in identifying more talent and bringing more laurels to the country!

If Saina would have refused this and instead demanded that the money be invested wisely, she would have soared in status atleast in my minds!

Saina Nehwal had sponsorships and comes from a well of family. Mary Kom came up with lots of hardships and from a poor background against all odds. Mary Kom won 12 Gold Medals in the International Arena and olympics bronze medal. Mary Kom operated on second hand gym equipment till she went to London Olympics and used to workout in open playground...Now who do you think really deserves a BMW or a MUV / SUV ?. How many Industrialists or Corporate CEO's came forward to gift Mary Kom ?. Isn't this bias just because she is a C*h*i*n*k*i...This is how North Indian players like the little master are biased and unjust....

Abhinav Bindra, Saina Nehwal, Rajvardhan Singh Rathod come from stinking rich affluent families who can gift the Indian Government back even after winning medals. Their families have earned so much. They took Sports as a hobby, not Mary Kom, Sushil or Yogender they came up against all odds....They deserve more adulation and financial support....

Is she really worth the recognition given
by Sathya on Aug 20, 2012 08:38 AM  | Hide replies

It is sorry to see that people are admiring Saina, even though there are better performers than her. It was her luck and not the performance which won her the Bronze, she was already lost 1 set and down 3 - 0 in the second. If the opponent had not withdrawn, she would not have won the Bronze. And for this effort Govt. and all associations are wasting money in recognizing her achievement. No doubt she has reached the quarter finals, but again i feel, the performance of others are far more better than hers. Let the authorities realize it and do the honors to the right people.

mr.sathya,
i think u might not be knowing about badminton to make a very uncalled comment like that, its one of the toughest games which requires alacrity of mind and fluent movement of the body to excel in the highest level, the stamina building process on top of it is such battle like preparation ...she deserves every bit of accolades coming towards her so does other emminent medalist in the country, but when a sportsman especially a non cricketer gets a prize like BMW we have to appreciate it , and not make uinfair negative comparissons, pls change ur attitude, it will hel u in ur life too

Sathya is right. The honour should have been given to chinese.

Some of us just don't digest the fact that Indians can achieve vis-a-vis sportsmen from other countries

Also, whatever money Sachin earned is through his hardwork and dedication and it's his money and he has every right to keep every penny of it.

All those idiots who think that Sachin should give away his hard earned money via some charity or that Sachin owes all the money he earned to the whole of India need to grow up.

If you know Economics,

you are a KID,

he's a "benami" of Crores of "Unwarranted" money purchase power,

being shifted,

without matching PRODUCTIVITY!!

Playin', touring, shopping with wife,

hopping with media,

traversing around awkwardly,

Headline says, "Sachin Tendulkar gifts BMW car to shuttler Saina"
Story reads, "The felicitation function was organised by vice-president of Andhra Badminton Association Chamundeshwari Nath, who honoured the city girl by buying her the luxurious car."

So, who paid for the car?

From the reading of your second sentence, it's obvious that Andhra Badminton Association paid for and presented the car to Saina through the hands of Sachin.

Sachin is only the presenter.

Why are you so confused?

Dont ever get confused.. Sachin will never spend a paise from his pocket for others!! it was paid by Andra association..

He didn't pay the tax which was supposed to pay indian govt when he was gifted an imported car..

ahahaha ... Sachin Tendulkar is a 'chippus' Marathi. He did not even pay tax for a gifted Ferrari car, so, how can one expect him to cough up the 30L moolah for a brand new BMW, that too which he has to give away!
