Public and private sectors must encourage future Olympians
by Krishnan P.R on Aug 13, 2012 05:29 PM  | Hide replies

After every olympic this or similar topic discussed. The discussions will be faded in due course. First of all the goverment should form a separate cell to prepare the sportsman. 2 years before the event they have personally assess the needs of each sportsman and esnure they are fit in every aspect. This cell should only consist of experts and politician. If this can happen we will also figure top 20 nations in medal list.

Inspiration
by sivakumar subramoniam on Aug 13, 2012 05:26 PM

until the individual is passionate about the sports he plays nobody/nomoney can inspire him.Everything starts from inside. When u fail accept it and strive for success.Don't blame govt and facilities. If facility is the prime thing for performance then look at athletes from poor african countries with no facilities winning medals.one word to our media. They hype our athletes without knowing the olympic standard. When an athlete is in last 8 and he could not win medals-the flash news is "X comes last".they don't see that X is 8th in overall position where 100s of athletes compete. In wrestling in 2008 media flash news was Sushil crashed out but actually there was a repechage round in which the wrestlers who lost to the finalists has to fight out for bronze.minimum 3 matches in a time frame of 1 hour.ie physically tiring.Reporters send to olympics be educated with the rules and regulations of the sport and don't blah blah.

PRIVATE SECTOR SPORT SUPPORT
by bhujanga subannachar on Aug 13, 2012 05:16 PM

For Indian sports (espcially Olympic recognized one) to shine OUR POLITICAL LEADERS SHOULD MOVE AWAY FROM IOC. Private sector should support financially but with out seeking SOPs from Govt towards business and not imposing indirect political pressures on professional bodies. No Industrialists should interefer with honest sprots bodies. We have been experience already the worst politics on account of Dalmias and Mallayyas. Sport is not business. Now a days Politics is a pure trade as our Parliaments and Assemblies are BUSINESS AND TRADE ORGANIZATIONS controlled by few families.Sport is only non political and non caste or religion oriented competitive feild where reservation do not bring any glory , no influencial candidate with personified personality can win the medal.

Frankly speaking these reasons are always mentioned after every Olympics and nothing comes out of it. It is followed by another article after our debacle.Yes we did better than the last Olympics but somewer I think it is dedication and commitment which lets us down.In fact if you see the 6 medal winners particularly Saina, Sushil and Yogeshwar they were determined to get a medal in case of whatever happens. Compare this to our Hockey team.We were expecting Top 6 finish and ended last. They never thought of even making semis. Also Deepika Kumari is No 1 for no reason. I dont understand how our world No 1 can be off colour during Olympics and the Chinese No 1 prove their postions. Yes moral support, corporate money, govt help is a must supported by sporting culture. But at the end of the day it is the athlete who has to put 100% commitment to achieve the dream for his country which I believe is something we lack

India underperformed.
by carazon on Aug 13, 2012 04:58 PM

Saddest thing about 2012 Olympics is that India under performed. India should and could have come back with 10 to 12 medals with atleast 2 to 3 golds. That could have changed the attitude of Indians towards sports other than cricket. Unfortunately because of a combination of bad luck, bad decisions and maybe poor attitude India returned with 2 silvers and 4 bronzes. Of course I was not expecting a medal in hockey, swimming or judo. But archers, boxers and shooters should have done much better. Facilities were there, they have been winning international tournaments and there was public support. But because of poor attitude(archery, shooting) and bad decisions(boxing) they failed to win as many medals as they should have.

cricket and films staple diet of indians
by brian crasto on Aug 13, 2012 04:40 PM

The craze of cricket has eaten away almost all the charm for other sports as it provides highest moneteary benifts compared to other sports. Cricketers get a lot of endorsement and they get fame and money in the shortest time in IPL. In fact the industrialists themselves other sports rebundant. Industrialists want quick money. Tatas, Mahindras have closed their football clubs. The second part we dont have enough faciliies like open spaces which have been gobbled by industrialists and politicians.

The author is wrong champions need to inspired from childhood by passion and not by endorsements or money.
If money is the only thing then tata's or reliance kid's will become world champions.
