Vijay Kumar joined the Army as an enlisted man where he was provided state of the art training facilities which enabled him to develop & hone his skills which led to his medals. The point is he joined as a regular soilder and not on "sport quota", so he was given a special chance by the army and now, after winning "ONE" medal he is crying out to be an officer (or else he will join Sports Authority of India!!!!)...How does winning a gold medal in Shooting at Olympics make him a suitable candidate to lead men in combat???? Medal or No Medal he owes it to the Indian Army. Finally, can he garuntee he will get a medal in the next Olympics too and if not will he give in writing that he will be demoted back to his current rank if he fails to do so?

That's an INCORRECT observation.. Performing sportsmen (or even individuals of any profession) expect encouragement and recognition for their efforts (and with it financial n gains as well)..
Prior to his Olympics medal, he won many a medal in Asiad and CG.. It was imperative that his accomplishments were taken note of and suitable rewards had followed..
It is unfortunate that he had to yell out for the same all by himself as people never cared to recognize talent.. How does one sustain without money? and how can one lead a better life without a rise in income?
Anyone who wins a medal (be it a bronze) for INDIA at Olympics is a hero and should be given his/her due.. Let's not ridicule a genuine appeal..
Congrats Vijay Kumar. We aqre proud of you. Please keep up this single minded focus and do not get corrupted by the fat-cow mentality. You do that and work hard and success will follow you. Your performance will hopefully inspire many others.
Shooting as a sports in india is a costly affair. First its difficult to obtain licence for weapon, then no quality ranges except three or four, restriction to import arms & ammo unless one is renowned shot at naional level, qouta of annual 50 ammo. All this are hinderence for pursuing shooting & goverment should come forward so it can become game of masses.
Hope he stays away from indian media, politics of sports administration, remain focussed as he is now and represent India in global arena for many years in future.
