Good for Indian sportsman
by premjit mishra on Aug 07, 2012 11:52 AM

In my opionion, more than the medal ,it was refreshing to see a very fit Indian athlete competing well.Physical stamina has always been an issue with Indias, but Saina's show was A class

Saina deserves all the accolades, she is extremely devoted to her sport and not like most of the others who run behind advertisments and mess up their career midway.Nevertheless she most of all would have wanted to win the first set before the chinese girl retired .Guess thats history now and she is the bronze medal winner and thats what counts

She does endorse a few brands nowadays. Her coach, Mr. gopichand, the all England badminton champion, has not fallen prey to the millions in advertisement deals. Congratulations to Saina on her achievement.

Why should she be ashamed because someone else got injured?

She did not get an easy draw, she made it look easy because she was one of the top seeds u fool...

& how do you know that "there was no way she would have won the next game"... did you even see the match?... seems you are one of those male chauvinist fetus killers who cannot digest the success of a local girl...

so you're suggesting that the bronze medal should be awarded to her opponent who wasn't even fit enough to complete the match?!? Get real, dude and give Saina credit! Its not as though she got thrashed, she lost the first set 21-18 and the second set had just started, she cud still have won! So stop talking such negative stuff and give due credit! You should support our players, rather than questioning whether or not they deserve a medal!!

Hi all,

Thank you for all your comments!! But I stand by what I wrote above. I definitely say that she did not deserve this bronze and her comment post the match that Chinese players are scared of her is a BIG Joke!!

And about some comments here on what I achieved in life - I need not brag about that in a public forum like this as I know very well that I have achieved enough within the limitations that I have/had :-)

Why are we criticizing Mang for the comments ? Why bring his own achievement here ? Everyone has right to question the things, it does not mean he himself has to be an achiever before commenting.

Saina's comment about chinese players being very scared of her doesn't seem right. May be she means they are afraid of her as a good threat, by no means is she a better player than the top 3-4 chinese. Her semifinal loss in straight sets to the world number 1 raises few doubts. But Saina is a very good player to be ranked among top 5 in the world. It's no mean achievement.

Further I can't comment about her pre-quarter and quarter final games, but her real test was against the two chinese players, one she lost comprehensively in semi final, and the other she lost the first game before getting a default win through injury to her opponent. When did she dominate any of the chinese players ?

So ppl are more concerned about one word she said after the match which may be heat of the moment or a misquotation...
& that gives u a opportunity to undermine the whole thing, years of hardwork & dedication?

Remaining match fit and completing a contest is a part of the game... which Wang Xin could not do although she is also a great player...

Besides do you think the Chinese would have given the medal to Saina if she was injured instead?

What are you talking about? Couple of years before, no one would have imagined Indian competing with Chinese on Badminton. Saina has shown the way. Even Chinese players are scared of playing Saina, as was evident during whole competition. Saina has every chance of beating the Chinese. So do not brag about limitations and skills, etc.
