Fed's anxiety lead to too many unforced errors which eventually cost him the match. Patience is the key when dealing with Rafa. Fed should try to make him play more on backhand and should not try to make him run more unlike
other players as it is fruitless against Rafa.

nadal triumph only at the clay courts
by rocky on Jun 08, 2011 05:11 AM  | Hide replies

nadal seems to be riding his luck for quite sometime now... clay court being his speciality, its understandable that he has won the french open for the sixth time. so out of his 10 gs titles six have been at the french open. he can never beat roger's 16 gs titles... i'm sure he wont win any more at the hard court gs.

Sweety, Rafa's leads 7-2 against Federer in Grand Slams. Did you count the Final in which Federer cried on the podium?

Anyways, Rafa won 4 French Finals, 1 French Semi Final, 1 Wimbledon Final, 1 Australian Final against Federer.

eaxcatly. your arguement is self defeating. out of 7 slam wins 5 are on slow clay of french open. so rafa is far from being a complete player. let us see how many more slams he wins. my guess is he will win only 1 more slam at french next year. and that will be his end.

if nadal wins queens club,
by bango tango on Jun 08, 2011 01:22 AM  | Hide replies

then i'm sure he will win wimbledon too....

by the time, he reaches 27, he will break Federer's GS record....
by the time he retires, he will break all the records that exists in tennis and he will be hailed as the greatest ever in tennis....BUT HE WILL LEAVE A LEGACY OF DOPING IN TENNIS...

New tennis kids, learn the art of doping by PED's, EPO's .....

Interesting piece of news there. Doping or not Nadal does posses amazing physical stamina comparing to track athletes.

Going by numbers..

It is a million dollar question mark on ability of Swede Bjorn Borg..who retired dramatically when he was just 25 years 171 days old with 6 French open and total 11 grand slams under his name. If he would ve played another 3 to 4 years, it could ve been a different story..

I read about him, it was his choice to retire. Though age was on his side he played for about 7 years which is not very less as compared to other pro players. Also, he could never win US Open (Aus Open he seldom participated, so we cannot comment).

I agree that he is one of the legends, but definitely the reasons behind his retirement were not out of his control. Also, we need to note that during his era, number of grand slams won by individual was not in limelight

He never won australian or US open. And in 1982, at age 26, he did play for one grand slam and lost in the semi. He was not the material to win more titles than he did.

Funny. You think that way. McEnroe beat him twice in all in grand slams.

the only way for fedex to win a slam now is if nadal isn't in it...
however these days .. federer is vulnerable to even other top players..

Rafa and RF
by Anuraug Rathor on Jun 07, 2011 03:53 PM  | Hide replies

These guys are simply amazing. There is no doubt these 2 guys are a class apart from the rest of the pack. They have dominated the sport like never before and their rivalry is the stuff of legend.Still, these guys are so down to earth, friendly to fans and media, and full of respect for each other and rest of the tennis players.Neither Rafa nor Roger behave like prima donnas.Contrast that with the Australian cricket team,Premier League footballers, boxing stars,NBA players etc. Those guys are so full fo themselves and constantly want their egos massaged. They would be doing themselves a favor if they learnt from the greatest tennis stars of the generation,Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer.

Absolutely right Anurag, i cant see many people in history of sports who can be called as true sportsman as these two.
Look at Noval what he does after SF lost to Fedex, he refuse to speak to press and rejected to sign any autograph.
In other game Nadal was packing he bag after win and he stop himself to applause for Andy when he started moving.
Noval shd have feel proud to play so well through out the year and he lost to player who is greatest of all time, how Fedex accepted defeat against Nadal in finale, he said couple of amazing words which a truesportsman can only say.
1. I am disappointed but still happy to reach here and i lost to greatest of time on clay.
2. Many surprise how Nadal wins so many titles but not me as i know he play better than others when needed.
Vamos Rafa and Salute to Fedex, i wud love to c them in few more slam final, atleast one more in Wimbledon.

Its possible
by Anuraug Rathor on Jun 07, 2011 03:45 PM

Age is certainly on Nadals side to overhaul RF.I dont see him winning more US Open titles, but he is a sure shot for a few more French and Wimbledon crowns.I think it's injuries and self doubt, more than opponents, which are Rafa's biggest roadblocks. He looked hardly his usual self during this French.Even last years US Open final against Djoko he looked very tentative. He was surely under huge pressure and expectations to complete his career slam there. But the US Open, coming at the end of a hard and gruelling year, with it's chaotic and TV dictated schedule, saps out a lot of energy and Rafa's game being physical as it is,I dont see him winning any more US Open titles. But he has a good chance of touching 16.The best thing about him is that he loves to make possible things his critics feel are impossible. So go Rafa,go get it.
