Its possible
by Anuraug Rathor on Jun 07, 2011 03:45 PM

Age is certainly on Nadals side to overhaul RF.I dont see him winning more US Open titles, but he is a sure shot for a few more French and Wimbledon crowns.I think it's injuries and self doubt, more than opponents, which are Rafa's biggest roadblocks. He looked hardly his usual self during this French.Even last years US Open final against Djoko he looked very tentative. He was surely under huge pressure and expectations to complete his career slam there. But the US Open, coming at the end of a hard and gruelling year, with it's chaotic and TV dictated schedule, saps out a lot of energy and Rafa's game being physical as it is,I dont see him winning any more US Open titles. But he has a good chance of touching 16.The best thing about him is that he loves to make possible things his critics feel are impossible. So go Rafa,go get it.

It is still possible. But, it seems that bad luck is a force against Fedex. Several of lethal drop shots failed him in this Final. He was clearly a better player, as far as Winners are concerned. Fedex fired 53 Winners compared to Nadal's merely 36. However, Fedex committed more unforced errors, to gift the match to Nadal.

Nadal lost several matches in this year, indicating that he is also becoming vulnerable. He was stretched to a Five setter, even in the First round of this FO. Fedex was a undisputed king just a couple of years or so ago. Now, people started questioning his ability. Likewise, Nadal's rule will also come to an end, sooner than later.

Even in the event of Nadal overtaking Federer's haul, I dont think that anybody, including Nadal can match the class and grace of Federer's style of play. As such, he will remain as a Champion ATG (atleast to those who have a bit of knowledge about Tennis. Those who are blindly praising Nadal may disagree with me. But, this is a fact that Federer IS the ATG.

how much longer can he play with this degree of intensity?
by narmada thampan on Jun 07, 2011 02:53 PM  | Hide replies

Nadal's game is way too physical, for all his phenomenal fitness and power, puts an unusual strain on his body. He forces himself to the limits of mental and physical endurance. Winning like that simply takes much more out of you. Rafa himself would admit his style is more taxing than Roger’s anmd I don’t think he will ever surpass Roger’s record of 16 GS.

His game is for sure too much physical and very different from others, but by this was he can play for another 3-4 years and thats enuf for him to surpass Fedex.
fedex may win one more slam, if Nadal can nt surpass but for sure he will com very close.

There is always a possibility......
by Anurag Rathore on Jun 07, 2011 12:17 PM

He can reach the landmark but for it he has to play with high intensity and good form for some more years. It's not as easy as it looks in numbers. Djokovic is in best form of his life. A.Murray and R.Federer are good can give tough time any day. D.Potro is rising again.
Let see what happens.

Do u know that Nadal has won 2 wimbledon, one u.s open and one australian open grand slam title and this when Federer also participated.Federer makes too many back hand errors which Nadal capitalised.a great player like Federer cannot win wimbledon if there is no improvement in his backhand.all that a player has to do is to repeatedly return to his backhand and wait for Federer to commit an unforced error.

Nadal beat federer in wimbledon final, and also in Aus open final. So it is very clear that nadal can beat federer on any surface though the winnings in french open was easier for nadal. And the head to head stat betwn these two amply show that nadal's will overpower federer's skill quite often, head to head there are 25 encounters and nadal wins 17.

Rafa is beating Roger in slams, that too in Finals and Semis and not in some stoopid 250 level best of 3 setter matches, where pressure to win is not as high. I guess everyone knows, the top players play 250s only for warm up for a certain GS.
