Tall ? pooh just a lame excuse
by aditya chavan on Jan 11, 2011 03:41 PM  | Hide replies

I agree with the fact that Indians are not tall enough but that cannot be the reason for not being in top 50. I would never accept the fact that tall=good ranking. Come on guys we are talking about football not basketball. You see being tall is advantageous but not being tall is never a problem.
Take cricket for example, ST is not tall, and it dosent mean he cannot play well. In fact he has the highest number of centuries to his name.
Its all about application. We will play in the World Cup some years down the line i m sure!

keep faith!

One more thing we have made a wrong choice by bringing in an English coach because they tend to play more physically and make us believe that that is the only way, but it isnt, look at Barcelona, thats one brand of football. We should have bought in a technical coach, like Mr.Wenger.

Yehh.. Wenger was in tears after he was snubbed for Bob. Thank goodnes that atleast one Englishman took up the challenge. Nobody wants to coach India (except coaches from some erstwhile Russian republics) because there is no scopre for honors, silverware or name. If not Bob, we wud have ended with yet another Bengali or Goan.

Why dont people understand that we lack talent??
by sandeep kumar on Jan 11, 2011 03:12 PM

Cricket, inefficient ministers, public interests..the same excuses have been moaned by the people who want to see India rise as a football power. These are utterly meaningless, and the core point is we lack talent and athleticism. We have loads and loads of footie fans in this country, but they would rather be in pubs and homes watching EPL or la liga. And jsut because messi, iniesta are 5 foot 8 dosent mean that we can be anywhere near their level. Our ball control is disgraceful, and we cant run or slide. We will be in the 140s for the next 20 years..mark my words!

the first image itself shows the plight of indian football. 6 men trying to head the ball which clearly means no one has idea about each others position on ground...... forget abt height blah blah....

Its not about the height
by nitin kalariya on Jan 11, 2011 02:51 PM

Its really not about the height, can some one tell me in how many schools foot ball is really played compared to Cricket. And how many parents send their kids for football training instead of Cricket. The Problem lies there, foot ball need to be promoted among the kids who are going to be champs of tomorrow. We are good at cricket because Indian Kids start playing very early. I fail to understand the logic of height. All asian playing nations are very short, in fact shorter than Indians

lack of interest and inefficient FA
by daytime saint on Jan 11, 2011 02:22 PM

the whole country is plagued by cricket. So Indian football lacks talent pool. that is the only problem facing Indian football. and we've got an FA which had a 'President until death' Mr. Das Munshi, who did nothing to develop the game. the fact that until recently indian FA didnt even have a website, says the whole story

Skill is more important than height
by Indranil Chowdhury on Jan 11, 2011 02:11 PM  | Hide replies

The average height of the Australian team is more than Spain - so why is Spain World Champion? These guys not only lack physical strength but also the necessary skills. I saw the match and they could not put together more than 3 passes in the midfield. The midfield is the most important in this battle and it is not basketball. Among the eleven - the two center backs played okay but lost the aerial battle. The full backs Deepak Mondal and Surkumar(I think) are incompetent. The Ozs had a free hand in the wings. Climax and Nabi cannot hold the midfield play. An European school team can pass better than that. And Dias was miserable - not one of those stupid long balls found its man. Chetri ran a lot but was bundled off the ball like a rat by their tall defender. So why cannot a professional soccer team pass the ball and players movement off it? First the ball and then the anything else. This is my favorite sport and I feel ashamed. Seriously I cannot bear this pain. Unless things improve we will have to wait for 24 more years the next time in Asia Cup. Honestly, I have given up on Indian football.

well said..

Height is not an issue as in Volleyball or basketball. Spain has smaller players dominating midfield and attack. From what I saw yesterday Indian team lacks skills and professional training. They were not even closing down(putting pressure) on OZ players near the penalty area leaving them free to shoot or cross. Also passing was pathetic. The only thing midfield did was big aerial balls to forwards. With that strategy we never had a chance against tall Aussies. They should have put 2gether small passes and moved fwd. Also the shooting was way off target, not even a good attempt on goal. happy that we conceded only 4 goals(thanks to Subrata).
