its a shame rediff
by shreeansh shreya on Feb 03, 2011 10:16 PM

Shame on you rediff! I might just stop reading rediff news of any kind after such a horrible article! Its really sad to have such a bad thing up! Well done Torres! If the fans love you they will continue to love you! Else they weren't your true fans! I'm a Man Utd fan, and Beckham is my favorite where ever he plays, so your fans will also love and support you, irrespective of the fact that you play for Chelsea or Man Utd or who ever!

liverpool are the one to be blamed
by Karthikeyan on Feb 03, 2011 06:49 PM  | Hide replies

Hey come on wake up , there is life and ambition for each individual ; Liverpool clearly lookes like a shinking ship , they are not showing any signs of improvements , its better to at a place where you can show off your talent than wasting at this place .
if at all anyone blames , please first blame the club not the individual for his decision . first show some act of willing to improve , then players will automatically come to you ,

that's correct...its good for torres to move on because he's a good striker and hasn't won any major trophy...
I guess liverpool could not do well lately because owners did not have money to compete with the likes of ManCity, Chelsea, and Rafa and Roy did some blunders, like selling alonso, sticking to 2 defensive midfielders, relying on just one strikers, buying players like Konchesky and Poulsen.
I hope Kenny can turn it around...

Sour grapes - Chelsea always!!!
by S Dutta on Feb 03, 2011 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

Manvendra - can we meet over a cuppa? You choose date & venue, I will come over, promise.

Let's discuss not just Torres, but will have Rafa, Gerrard(you talked about him lightly), Reina et al after this season ends and next one begins.

Let's accept, Liverpool is a sinking ship and if this season you manage to avoid relegation (CL & Europa would be too far fetched next season) Kenny should feel proud.

Await exodus!!!

FYI, liverpool sit at 7th position, which is 10 positions above the relegation zone...
Torres is never going to be successful at Chelsea because he can only play as a single striker....that's why he can never play well alongside David Villa...we will see how he plays as a left winger/striker.
I believe his fate is going to be the one for Mascherano, warming the benches...why would Pep Guardiola chose Mascherano when he has Xavi, Inesta, Busquets, and Keita and they play a nice passing game....only if he wants to break somebody's leg, he will choose him..
Its same fate for Torres....

Observations

Well written article. A few points:
1. Liverpool has shown no signs of what they had promised to El Nino in summer.
2. The new owners/manager has hardly been able to change anything in the club.
3. Playing a lone striker as El Nino with no support from midfield whatsoever is something Liverpool has done all through this season. He has always been a box striker, as he had shown in the Chelsea match this season. But no one was delivering him anything, except for Raul M towards the end.
4. Even now Liverpool doesnt seem to be aiming for CL football next season.

In the end I think Liverpool's lack of vision and 'to-do' attitude made El Nino leave. I understand the club supporters will be heart broken but there is a time one man has to live for himself and not supporters. That way I pity Alan Shearer, who could have given us more pleasure of his football but decided to stay back with Magpies till the end of his career. I am thankful that Nando didnt do the same. I want to see the fearless striker rise to the levels he belongs to. Hope Chelsea provides him that platform.

No one is talking about the decision to leave, people are just angry because of the timing my dear friend.
If he wanted to leave he could have put a transfer request on the 1st jan.......but no he chose the 28th of jan, when the club had no time to recoup.

that's right....If it was early in Jan, ManCity would have got in resulting in a bidding war.
Also, liverpool would have chance to look for a better replacement...and he should never have commented like "taking a step further" because although he probably did take a step further, but he should never criticize liverpool(just like one should never criticize your employer) because he was a nobody at Athletico Madrid, and now he's considered to be the topmost striker....

nice article but you should have seen it coming...
by rajan bhatt on Feb 03, 2011 04:24 PM

It is so good to read such a well written article especially by such a devout fan. It is all heart.

But you should have known that this was inevitable from the moment Liverpool failed to qualify for the champs league. Torres is a world cup winner and there is no way that he would stay on in the midst of mediocre signings made by liverpool in the past couple of seasons. The biggest blame ofcourse goes to Benitez for his seriously ridiculous signings and also for letting go off players like Alonso.

Now king kenny must start a new chapter in Liverpool's history. I guess all Liverpool fans must also be patient and not expect a quick fix to the problems. I myself am an Arsenal fan and in the past five years we haven't won anything - but the fans have rallied behind Wenger who has managed the finances and the squad admirably. The new arsenal stadium didn't allow for any marquee signings but still we have kept ourselves solid and managed a top four place every season.
Liverpool should perhaps look to do the same now and rebuild in the next two seasons or so before dreaming of winning serious silverware.
Forget the Benitez/hodgson era as a dark period in a great club's history....

Hats Off to LFC Think tankers
by J Jena on Feb 03, 2011 02:16 PM

Torres was not at all playing well since mid of last season. His body language was poor. He was a shadow of himself in the last World Cup. He was a passenger in the Spanish WC winning team. But any body whoo had been following LFC website could remeber that day in day out both Hidgson and Dalglish were heaping mountains of praise, not for his current on field exploits but for the potential of delivering in future. They managed cleverly to raise his selling value. The current record of both the new signings Suarez and Carrol are much better. Thanks to clever thinking on LFC by getting rid of a NPA (Non Performing Asset) at an unimaginable price, which Chelsea will rue for sure.

Please keep the history to yourself ....
by Rishi Gaurav on Feb 03, 2011 12:16 PM

- Why do Liverpool fans keep living in the past! At every opportunity they throw the "our great history" line at every one? Is it because their present his so dodgy? :) Man U has a great history as well, but we still live in the present ... :)

- How can you even compare the departure of David Beckham with that of Torres. Beckham never wanted to go. He was sold by the manager, because of very public reasons. And he has never ever said one bad word about United till now. And will(and has) ALWAYS be welcomed back at Old Trafford.
