BCCI has done a great job
by Vivek Dev on Aug 31, 2011 06:08 AM  | Hide replies

People who rail against the BCCI which is now the richest sports body, should first appreciate the great job BCCI has done to promote, commercialise the game and elevate it to the level it has now reached. There are other sports bodies and sports, why these have been miserable failures? Why hockey is in such dire straits after India being at one stage the world champions. In fact the contrast between hockey and cricket would be illustrative of what the problem is all about. Hockey was a national sport but it was mostly popular in north india and the administrators of the bodies of the game were all north indians. As happens with everything managed by north indians the administration of the sport deteriortated and India soon lost its position in the world. On the other hand the professional approach of the BCCI ensured that cricket went from strenght to strength, spinning money for cricketers, board and the country. Now the north indians eyeing the huge stakes in the game want to take it over. That is all there is to it.

Before talking all these non-sense, understand one thing.. the new sports bill is blocked by those Oldies who have earned enough in the name of sports. These oldies who keep one foot in grave and other foot in toilet as they cannot control their own bladder, wanted to control the sports in this country.

Because of this, India cannot even reach double digits in winning medlas in Olympics.

Of course, why should those who have worked to bring the sport to such level give up control to the upstarts from north? What is their contribution to the game? CWG ha, ha.

...once there is no play, all these oldies politicians at top will run to leech something else after offering stiff resistance.

All these players making big bucks should know that they will retire at sometime, better join union now.

Maybe these union players can form their own parallel body like BCCI.

Why not RTI?
by Mathew George on Aug 31, 2011 12:03 AM

One can expect the opposition to the age limit criteria. But what the hell of logic from BCCI is there against the implementation of RTI?
They should be thrown down the Arabian Sea

it will be very good if bcci is not nationalised.

the results will only be bad for indian cricket.

indian cricket will be good only as long as it is private...

what do you mean cricket has money is because of dudes like me?

i am only saying that what has happened in the last decade is good for us. the last decade was best for india in the history of test cricket performances wise and finance wise. what's bad in that?

tell me what is wrong? was our board as strong finance wise and clout wise ever stronger before today? were our performances as good ever before? were we as big in world cricket before as we have been in the last decade?

ok some mistakes are there and can be corrected or improved. but people are being vey harsh on bcci especially considering that what they have done in the last 10 years...the last 10 yrs. have been the best years in cricket for india...we had our best team during this period, bcci became strong financially best among all cricket playing nations. where before we had to bow down to others today others have to bow down to us. right from the start of this decade with the appointment of foreign coaches bcci has taken many correct and great decisions and steps to bring indian cricket to where it is now in a position of dominance...

the last ten years there is no more dependence on big states and cities. our board has taken huge efforts to take cricket to remote places and made big efforts to unearth talent from far off places. dhoni is the biggest example of this.

bcci has done more things right than wrong...last 10 yrs. is our best period and just one bad series and people see only faults...

Sports Bill

Through sports bill, UPA Government has an opportunity of correcting its public image related to corruption. Indian masses are aware of what is going on in BCCI and Government must press hard to pass the bill, irrestive of the opposition from self seeking office bearers.

who represents India
by bramhand on Aug 30, 2011 10:24 PM

It is not only the BCCI which is going to come under the bill, other federations would come. If BCCI says that it is autonomous org. Gov't should be doing nothing in running it's affairs, then the team which BCCI choses loses the legal & moral sanctity to represent India. When the issue is of tax rebates and monetary benefits, the BCCI and it's chosen players are upfront, but what when WADA/NADA breaks through, or transparency is attempted to be brought in. BCCI has become an oligarchy, Mr. Pawar has so much of vested interest, nothing is hidden from any body what his stakes are or what Lalit modi stood for. Even selectors have dynasties which is running through ages.

National Sports Bill
by NARAYAN on Aug 30, 2011 10:20 PM

I would like to congratulate Mr. Makan for introducing the sports bill in parliament. BCCI must be made accountable and must pay all government taxes as applicable. Individuals with doubtful credentials must be made to quit positions held by them in BCCI.
